Rescued by Chicago-based animal rescue, the nervous pooch had a tough time on its first walk outside but soon things turned better.
Some kind-hearted animal lovers turn out to be life-savers for the innocent four-legged beings. Many are ardently fighting the animal cruelty that's happening in the name of laboratory experiments. But even after rescuing such laboratory dogs, the biggest challenge would be to heal their physical or mental trauma. It was what Dora, a Beagle rescued by the Chicago-based animal rescue, One Tail At A Time (OTAT) had to face when she was about to take her first walk outside. The rescue shelter posted a video on TikTok last October about Dora's first outdoor stroll after being rescued and the internet found it heartbreakingly adorable.
The video lasted for just 8 seconds but it spoke volumes on how laboratory dogs are impacted. "Ex-lab beagle attempts her first walk outside," the text overlay read. As the person who was holding Dora's leash showered words of encouragement, the pooch took a few slow steps along the pavement. She was nervous about her first outdoor walk and one could even say that all she did at first was crawl. However, her baby steps seemed to be a significant development and it paved the way for further healing. "Dora was recently rescued from a laboratory. Today she went on her first walk outside, we think she did a pretty good job," the caption read. Being one of the 1800+ animals saved by the shelter in 2023, Dora and her first stroll became widely popular.
So far, the video has gained over 1.7 million views and people showered their love for the rescued Beagle. Some even shared similar experiences with dogs rescued from laboratories. "It breaks my heart to think of what these babies have done to them. It takes a special kind of heathen to do it, I'm sure she's getting all the love," said @peggyjoseph961. "This makes my heart hurt and jump for joy at the same time," pointed out @sushipoe. "I adopted an ex-lab beagle and he recently passed. We had so many moments like this together, I am so proud of the dog he became. He changed my life," added @javarieur.

Among the myriad of support that poured in for Dora, some also wanted to know her progress. So the shelter posted a part-2 video and to everyone's delight, Dora had made astounding progress. Her strolls are no longer filled with nervous crawls because she can run now. The video shows Dora walking along the pavement, stopping to sniff something and continuing to run to her heart's content. "Dora is thriving and doing excellent in foster! She will be adoptable soon," the animal rescue mentioned in the caption. This video too gained huge attention and people were keen on seeing Dora find a happy home.
Within the first few days of November last year, the OTAT updated about the Beagle's "fantastic" health. "She has been cleared for her spay surgery, which means she will officially be adoptable very soon," they mentioned in the caption. On November 7th, Dora finally got adopted and the video of her adoption showed the furry angel playing and having fun with her new family.
