'I can't decide if my parents are hilarious or horrible human beings,' the college student humorously wrote in the caption.
People with disabilities have to face many obstacles in their lives. However, many persevere and achieve their dreams, with their families by their side. u/Technical-Prize-4840, a disabled college student, shared a post on Reddit that showcased their parents' hilarious gift to them after they graduated. The post, which has the internet in stitches, has got 42K upvotes and 841 comments. It is titled, "I'm a disabled college student who just graduated. I can't decide if my parents are hilarious or horrible human beings."
In the post, the student has shared a photo of their parent's gift, which is a "Certificate of Achievement." The funny certificate was given to the individual for "graduating from college without ever stepping foot on campus!" The cert appears to be laminated and put in a very nice frame. People absolutely loved the joke by the parents and shared their thoughts in the comments section.
u/TheBigYellowCar shared, "I once worked with a Brit who lost a foot in his previous career as a SAS guy. He showed me a pic of him in hospital post-surgery with his coworkers. They gave him a bag of gummy bears with the left foot bit off. Brutal, but he loved that pic and showed it to everyone." Another individual, u/Bomb_Diggity, said, "Love it! My mom was in a wheelchair. Growing up, whenever she would ask me to get something for, I'd say, 'Get it yourself! That's what God gave you legs for!' Then I'd do it, of course. It always caught other people off guard."
In the comments, the student revealed that in his family, dark humor is preferred more. "I am extremely fine. My parents are both wonderful human beings who love me dearly. They fought extremely hard through tons of discrimination and inaccessibility to get me to college at all. We have a dark sense of humor in my family. I never was and never will be exempt from that humor. I give it, so I have to be able to take it. And I love that my family is this way."
There are many wonderful stories about disabled people going to great lengths to achieve their dreams. Instagram creator @wheelchairdad is one such individual who did not let his paralysis stop him from doing the things he loved. A video showcases the dad going around in his wheelchair, holding a hand-drawn blueprint, and doing a lot of the construction work all by himself. The caption reads, "We designed this built-in bunk bed/playhouse about a year ago and it has been an absolute labor of love this year!"
The dad's sheer determination and hard work are things that everybody can learn from. The man simply does not let the fact that he is in a wheelchair stop him from doing all of the difficult tasks of construction. The caption also reveals how the construction pace has to be faster. It states, "Dan has been working tirelessly in between all of the other craziness he's dealing with and yesterday it was finished enough to put their mattresses in temporarily."
Throughout the video, the dad can be seen being very active, even kneeling and bending to hammer a nail into a wall to complete the project. It is truly amazing to see the dad express his love for his daughters in such a wholesome manner. "They were so excited! What an incredible gift their daddy is giving them! Not only a dream bedroom but the priceless lessons he is teaching them along the way! As they were going to sleep last night, they both said, 'Thank you, Daddy and Mommy, for our bedroom!'" the caption explains. Isn't that cute?
