The actress spoke about how her dog Reggie has accompanied her after her adult kids moved out of her house.
Diane Keaton is a happy woman who enjoys being single. In a recent interview with AARP The Magazine, the actress opened up about her personal and professional life. The 77-year-old said: "I don't date. Highly unlikely. I don't remember anyone calling me, going, 'This is So-and-So. I'd like to take you out.' They don't happen. Of course not."
Keaton has dated famous actors like Woody Allen, Warren Beatty and Al Pacino in the past.
According to Good Morning America, she built her own family when she was in her 50s by adopting two children, her daughter Dexter Keaton, and son Duke Keaton.
Keaton went on to share that she recently found a companion in her dog Reggie after her adult kids moved out of her house. "A friend of mine gave her to me," Keaton said. "I didn't even ask for her. He came to me and said, 'I think you need this dog.' I was like, 'OK, I guess?' Of course, now I just love her. Dogs are irresistible. They're just idiots. Reggie is a big jerk, and she's a great jerk, and she's hilarious."
Earlier this year, the actress revealed that she hasn't been on a date in the last 15 years. "Let's [say] 15 years," she told Extra in January. "They probably just thought, 'Enough's enough... she's too weird.' I'm kind of odd, but I'm doing fine."
However, the real number of dateless years may be a lot more than 15 as Keaton previously told InStyle in 2019 that she had not been on a date in 35 years. "I have a lot of male friends. I have a lot of friends, but no dates. No, mwah-mwah," said the actress.
In 2021, the actress shared why she never got married. "It goes back to my mother, because, for me, most everything does," she told Interview magazine. "I love my dad, of course — that goes without saying — but she was always there, and he was always working. He was working hard, and he was really interesting. And he loved her, too."
She believes her mother gave up so much as a wife and mother. "I mentioned watching her get that crowning glory and being Mrs. Highland Park. After that, we moved down to Santa Ana, and it was over. There was no more trying things out. I feel like she chose family over her dreams. And she was just the best mother, but I think that she is the reason why I didn't get married. I didn't want to give up my independence."
On Valentine's Day this year, Keaton posted a hilarious montage of some of her famous movie roles in which she kissed her co-stars. "HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO ALL THE MEN WHO WERE PAID TO KISS ME," she captioned the Instagram post.

The actress told PEOPLE in 2019 that she thinks she simply isn't marriage material. "I think that I'm strange," she said. "Today I was thinking about this. I'm 73 and I think I'm the only one in my generation and maybe before who has been a single woman all her life. [I'm not sad] because I think that I needed more of a maternal aspect. I don't think it would have been a good idea for me to have married, and I'm really glad I didn't, and I'm sure they're happy about it, too."
