The driver lets the soldier know that he was here to take the trash out and thanks him for his service.

Engaging in banter can lead to unexpected surprises, just like this deployed soldier who watched an Instacart driver chat with his wife and decided to pull the driver's leg. Watching the interaction through a security camera, he jumped into the conversation to tease the duo and was amused by how effortlessly the driver rolled with it. Needless to say, the ending had everyone crackling. Sharing the video on Reddit on November 14, the unexpected interaction has garnered more than 27k upvotes thus far.

Posted by u/mindyour on Reddit, the clip features an Instacart driver who is seen saying, "Be safe" to the soldier's wife before he gets into the car to leave. Just then, the woman's husband, a deployed soldier, can be heard saying, "Who is that out there flirting with my wife?" He was watching the interaction through their CCTV camera, and couldn't help joining in. The driver quickly cleared the air, informing that he was just the Instacart driver, going on to explain how his customer (the soldier's wife) had wanted to see the driver's child and wife waiting in the back of his car. This was when the customer realized her husband's gaffe and came out embarrassed by the banter. "The wife is in the car, babe," she said, looking up at the camera. The Instacart driver, who couldn't stop laughing, soon asked his wife, Katie, to wave at the camera from the backseat, saying, "Hey Katie, say hi to the military guy," as she's seen waving at the camera. They greet each other as the soldier responds, "Better have a good one, brother." The driver also added that he'd taken out the trash from their home and was on his way out. "I know you're deployed; thanks for keeping us safe," he said while waving at the camera and backing out of their driveway.
In a 2012 study by Rebecca Baron et al., it was noted that laughter during social joking triggers endorphin release — a neurochemical linked to pleasure, bonding, and pain reduction. The findings suggest that joking and playful banter biologically strengthen social bonds and make group interactions more positive. By turning a simple conversation into playful banter, the soldier and the Instacart driver were able to establish a trustworthy bond — something so beautiful that it left users feeling like they were part of an intimate moment between two great friends.

Soon after the post went viral, many online users reacted to the playful exchange between the two men. u/keiliana wrote, "Sounded like a joke to me. He just wanted to join the convo. He probably just misses home and wifey." u/ZealousideaNight902 shared, "We had a camera that my husband watched while he was deployed. He was bored a lot, and having an eye on the house/people coming and going helped him feel useful so far away. He never did this, but he would text me and remind me to take up the trash or remind me to close the garage." u/MoodooScavenger wrote, "Guys doing instacarter with his baby and wife in the car. Crazy tough times."
