The video of the boy reacting to using hearing aids for the first time is making everyone tear up.
Children who are born with sensory disabilities never really experience the world in the same way as able-bodied people. It is a big challenge for them as well as their caregivers who struggle to give disabled children the best assistance and care possible. While we take hearing and seeing for granted, it is a profound experience for disabled children if they are ever able to see and hear their surroundings the same way as others. A video depicting a child's reaction to hearing for the first time became viral on social media.
The video was shot in a doctor's cabin in which a child named Christopher can be seen playing with the toys. Doctors can be heard talking to the parents and telling them that the hearing aids will go live together in both ears. They also asked the parents if they would like to see the boy's reaction, per Times Now. The hearing aid is activated on the count of three. When his parents say, "Hi buddy, hi Christopher," the youngster is perplexed at first. He stares at his father with wide eyes and then joyfully hugs his mother. The father reassures him that everything will be OK.
The video was posted on TikTok by @wookyballz and has over 4 million likes and around 17k comments. The caption reads, "Boy scared when he hears for first time." It touched the hearts of several people and Christopher's reactions made many cry. A TikTok user wrote, "He was just shocked is all, imagine not hearing anything and then randomly hearing one day. He just needs time to adjust." Another commented, "he heard his mom and hugged her so quick I am SOBBING."
"I don’t tear a lot but pretty much bawling in happiness," added another.
Many congratulated the entire family for having such a profound experience with one user saying, "Congratulations to all three of you... Wishing you all wonderful loud life ahead." A user who is a student of the mother in the video shared, "the mom is a teacher at my school i can confirm that the cochlear implants are good. he loves them :)" Another person commented, "I experienced this moment with my sister, pretty incredible."
In another similar instance, the parents of a deaf newborn shared their reaction to hearing her mother say "I love you" for the first time. A hearing aid was specially made for the little girl named Charly allowing her to experience sounds for the first time. The child can be seen tearing up as soon as she hears her mother's voice. Her mother explained her emotions after Charly's reaction, "All this time that we had spent sad that she wasn't able to hear us, all that pain went away."
Seeing the reactions of these kids expressing profound joy and excitement to hear for the first time shows that we all take simple things for granted. They are living a better life due to medical assistance and experiencing the world in ways that their parents thought were never possible.
