How often do you thank the universe or god for the things you have in your life? Even the littlest things, like the ability to walk, talk, hear, breathe, and question are something to be grateful for. But we do not often reflect on the things we have been gifted by the higher power; instead, we choose to complain about the things we do not have. Mandy, in this TikTok video posted by @worthy_creator_videos, is happy just to get to hear her friend’s voice for the first time in her life.

Another day, another video that will make you cry for strangers on the Internet. A viral video has been floating on TikTok since last year in which Mandy, a deaf girl, runs to her friend’s house. She rings the bell and waits for her to open in anticipation. Her friend calls her name, “Mandy, hey girl,” and she breaks down immediately. Her friend’s concern is visible through her gestures, as she tries to comfort and ask her, “Wait… What’s wrong?”

Still unaware of what made Mandy so overwhelmed, her friend holds her by her shoulders. They both sit on their toes and her friend tries to comfort the crying Mandy. She asks her, “Oh my God, is everything okay?” Mandy nods her head while trying to control her tears. She asks her again for reassurance and hugs her even more tightly. A few seconds later, Mandy gestures in sign language, “I can hear you…”

Her friend asks, “You can hear my voice?” Mandy nods and breaks down again. Both friends share a tight embrace as they celebrate the happy moment. Mandy shows her friend her cochlear implants which assisted her in hearing, and they walk inside the house. The beautiful and poignant moment was captured on a Ring camera.

If you have a small house, you want a bigger one, if you have one car, you want two. Where most people are not satisfied with what they have, people like Mandy are only happy that they can finally hear their friend’s voice. It is, hence, essential that we appreciate everything we have. Even the smallest things are the biggest blessings to those who know how to be grateful. Therefore, every night before hitting the sack, you must close your eyes and thank the universe for everything you have; because there will always be someone who lacks more than you.
