Music concerts are the best place to hang out, but when Karri Carberry took her hearing-impaired father to the Three Days Concert in Edmonton, she sure decided to make him a part of the concert through sign language. In a viral video from December 17, 2018, Karri Canberry can be seen singing her dad the lyrics of the songs that even made the band awestruck.

It was the concert of Three Days Grace at Edmonton when a daughter and father's sign language interaction caught the attention of fans at the concert. Darrin Carberry had introduced Karri to the rock band, but he was hearing-impaired. However, his disability did not stop him from appreciating music as he enjoyed it with the help of a hearing aid in one ear and could perceive sounds partially through the other. The father-daughter duo decided to hit their first concert together, and what better than making the Three Days Grace concert for their debut together. Karri, who was with her father, signed the lyrics of each song to her father in sign language.
Although the people around them were puzzled by their interaction at first, they quickly understood and decided to grab their phones to capture the heartwarming moment between them. Karri, who noticed people around her capturing videos of her and her dad, did not think of it much and allowed a woman who was capturing the video to post it online. However, the response that followed was immeasurable!
To Karri and her dad's surprise, the video went on to hit more than 11 million views online, which Darrin described as a 'mind-blowing' experience. The video garnered so much positive response from people around the world who adored the father-daughter duo's heartwarming moment. However, to their surprise, the video also managed to reach the attention of the band Three Days Grace, too! Drummer Neil Sanderson messaged Karri and let her know how much the band appreciated their moment. And as a heartwarming gesture, Neil informed Karri that he had connected with a friend in the audiology field who offered to provide Darrin with a new set of hearing aids, fully covered by the Campaign for Better Hearing initiative. Karri shared that this gesture from Sanderson and his friend resulted in her father receiving the upgraded hearing aids at no cost.
In a study authored by Caterina Da Milta in 2023, the author explored how sign language interpreters transform music at live concerts from a simple translation of lyrics into a full performance. The study aimed to develop a model of 'musical performativity in signed performance' that improves concert accessibility for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences while also reimagining the interpreter as a performer and cultural mediator. 5 years ago, an interpreter at Beyonce's concert went viral for giving the artist "a run for her money." The 55-year-old man's expressive interpretation gave the fans a true taste of the concert. Since it's difficult for fans to see both Beyonce's dance and the ASL, he moved his hip in tune so they could get the full package.
Soon after the video went viral, people poured their admiration for the band for their generosity and heaped praise on the father-daughter duo's bond. @cimerons wrote, "This makes me love Three Days Grace even more than I already do. What a beautiful moment for the father and daughter, too." @its_mimi09 commented, "Crying tears of happiness for strangers is my super power."
@divebomb_dave wrote, "Three Days Grace is a band of some hands-down, very awesome dudes!"
