When other toddlers are learning basic skills, this youngster is showing his exceptional talent with a drum set.
It's no surprise that this kid has so much musical talent at such a tender age when his parents are notable singers, songwriters and record producers. Rennie Foster is merely 3 years old and he can already play some cool beats on his red drum set that has his name written on the front. Rennie is the only son of none other than former "American Idol" participant and songstress Katharine McPhee-Foster and multiple Grammy award-winning record producer and composer, David Foster.
Just like any other proud parent, McPhee-Foster decided to film a video of her son's musical talent and Foster shared it through an Instagram post on January 5, 2024. She starts the video from another room of their house and makes her way through the hallway, following the sound of drum beats coming from another corner of the house. McPhee-Foster finds her son and husband in what appears to be the toddler's playroom as the little one shows his impressive skills on the drumset. Michael Jackson's 1979 hit track "Rock With You" plays in the background as Rennie maintains his pace with the song's beats and showcases some improvisation as well.
Foster is spotted sitting on a couch, bopping his head to the beats which are on point and looking at Rennie with a whole lot of love and admiration. Foster, who is a 16-time Grammy-winning composer and former chairman of Verve Records, captioned the video of his son on Instagram which read: "Drumming into the new year #still2yearsold.” Rennie notices his mother filming the video for a while and pauses but with her encouragement, the little one continues drumming. The beaming father's comment section was soon flooded by comments from musical artists like Charlie Puth, Kristin Chenoweth and many more.
Fello Instagram users were left awestruck as well. @philosophyofsophism noted: "People with a healthy mind have a successful life who had intelligent and wealthy parents in their childhood." @mysticgrannymc_96 wrote: "Now that's what you call a Boss Baby! Not trying to be funny but there is a saying about when an older man father's a child...Wow!" @jeriwirtz joked: "And that my friends is what happens when two Amazing and talented people have a child...a musical genius." @j_martino added: "You'll notice the kid is playing along with actual 80s music. Yeah, the real stuff. Great job, Dad."

This is not the first time the music producer has shared the remarkable drumming skills of his son. Previously in another Instagram video, he shared Rennie's progress with his drumming skills when he was 2 years and 3 months old and he was already showing potential of becoming a future musical prodigy. According to PEOPLE, Foster had Rennie in 2021 when he was 73. "I had all daughters until my son and I love all my daughters immeasurably, but having a son is a little bit different," Foster told the outlet as he already has six adult daughters from his previous relationships.

"At this point in my life, it's different again," Foster said while he was at the Music Center in Los Angeles during an event. "Not better or worse, just different. I still work, I'm still gone a lot, but maybe the time is a little more precious to me because I got more runway behind me than I have ahead of me now." He believes that now he has a lot of patience to raise a toddler compared to when he was raising his daughters. "I think that I can offer one thing to Rennie even though I won't be around when he's 50 or 40 even or 30 maybe," Foster explained. "I think I can offer him wisdom from my 72 years on the planet. And maybe that's not a bad trade-off. I hope so."
