The daughter's reactions give the mother the emotional hint that her kid is no longer a child and is slowly growing up.
No matter how much children throw tantrums, their antics and playful nature always make their parents happy. Their adorable innocence gets imprinted on their parent's hearts forever. It is a time when the kids have no worries. Every parent wants to cherish that time. But all the parents know that one day, it will come to an end. Something like this happened with Kae (@thecarseatseries) who, with a sudden interaction with her little daughter, realized that she has grown up and has her own worries now.
Kae and Zoe have a tradition of recording their interaction while in the car. Therefore, when Kae went to pick up Zoe from school, she put her camera on record. As the daughter sat in the car, it was visible she had had a long day. The mother began asking her some chatty questions, "Did you take pictures with all of your classmates too?" The daughter was in no mood but answered her mother, "Yes...Mommy....."
Kae quickly realized that something was wrong and stopped talking. But what happened next was beyond her expectations. Zoe answered back to her, "Mommy? Can you leave me alone, please? I wanna, I just wanna relax, okay?" The mother was visibly emotional and taken aback, as the daughter, who communicated every problem in life with her, now preferred to keep something to herself. She had garnered the maturity to set up boundaries and the mother, as an adult, needed to respect those limits. Even though having boundaries is healthy, it is a stark reminder that those naive days of childhood are gone and Zoe has entered a new chapter in her life.
The whole thing was very perplexing for Kae, but she still complied. "Okay, sorry," she responded. Zoe continued communicating her feelings, "Cause it's annoying me." Though her attitude might have been a bit hard for Kae to handle, in the end, the fact that she felt free to communicate her honest feelings was heartwarming. Zoe did not feel compelled to paste a smile on her face when she did not feel like that. The daughter was aware that she had a safe space to communicate. As the Children's Commissioner revealed, 66% of the children felt stressed because of school activities. An open space helps them immensely in managing their emotions.
The comment section consoled her and also appreciated her upbringing. @baphomeat asks the mother to see the positive side of the situation, "It hurts but this shows you're doing a great job! She gets to tell you when she's not in the mood to talk. Most kids NEVER get that privilege." @samayres789 pointed out the child's communication skills, "This is incredible communication, I learned this at like, 25." @coolranchluke explains how she is in the same boat, "My youngest is just like this. I have no idea what's going on in his life for the last four years."
