While her dad was visiting, she stopped feeling her daughter's movements in her belly.

Fathers turn into fierce warriors while protecting their daughters, but their armor falls like dust in the wind when they see their princesses cry. Laura Ruby (@rubytrejo) realized it when she checked the CCTV footage capturing her dad after her miscarriage. She shared the heartbreaking video on TikTok on August 27, 2025. So far, the footage has received over 9 million views.

Ruby was 26 weeks pregnant, and her dad had come home to visit her. While he was home, she realized she hadn't felt her daughter move for so long. Of course, she was worried, but her father made sure to check on her constantly. "He checked up on me every 5 min after I drank or ate something cold to try to get her to move," she recounted. They waited for Ruby's boyfriend to come back from work, and once he was back, they rushed to the emergency room. The doctor confirmed that she had lost the baby, as there was no heartbeat. "The first person I called was my dad, and I cried to him..." Ruby confessed. She was definitely shocked seeing him break down in the CCTV footage. In the video, her dad, standing outside her house, looked devastated by the news. He was constantly wiping off his tears, perhaps to prepare himself to face his daughter. It wasn't just Ruby or her boyfriend who had been waiting for the little princess, but her dad too, who must have been really excited to embrace the role of a grandfather. However, all his dreams were crushed to dust when Ruby called him to inform him about the heartbreaking news.
@rubytrejo my dad was home with me that day…the moment i realized i hadn’t felt my daughter move in a while he checked up on me every 5 min after i drank or ate something cold to try to get her to move…once my boyfriend got home from work we rushed to the ER and after getting told there was no heartbeat the first person i called was my dad and i cried to him….🫂💙 *stillbirth #dadsoftiktok #miscarriagemomma #fyp #babygirl ♬ original sound - ꨄ
Ruby also recalled how her dad was so positive before she headed into the emergency room. In fact, he kept reassuring her that everything would be okay. 30 minutes later, when she called her dad and told him about her miscarriage, Ruby said he repeatedly kept asking if the doctors were sure there was no heartbeat. "It was the hardest phone call I ever had to do, and I was the one going through it," she confessed. What Ruby's dad felt could be beautifully explained by a study titled "Forgotten grievers: an exploration of the grief experiences of bereaved grandparents." The research found that grandparents experience "double" the grief because it's the cumulative pain of losing their grandchild and the pain of their own child's grief.
Meanwhile, the video received an overwhelming response on TikTok, leaving netizens teary-eyed. While some wished Ruby a quick healing, others shared their miscarriage experiences. For instance, @ayee.laurenn wrote, "He is wiping his tears so his baby doesn't have to see him cry!" @lovelyleslieee commented, "I am sobbing. My stepdad took me everywhere with him when I went through my first miscarriage. He’s now married to a woman my age, who made him stop having contact with me."

@ym1chel shared, "My parents dug a little hole in their backyard. My dad planted a tree next to my baby, he said, 'When we see that tree grow, we will always think of how much your baby would have grown.'" @angelicamiller25 shared, "I suffered a miscarriage in 2021, and I'm sure if my daddy was earthbound instead of in heaven, I would have called him & cried to him. Seeing this brought me to tears because I know my daddy would have been crying with me while he held me!" @tragonza said, "Ugh, I’m so sorry. The grief of a miscarriage changes you completely. My parents grieved so much, too. Sending you love."
