Having a healthy relationship and open communication with your parents and guardians will always have a positive impact on your life. But not everyone is fortunate enough to grow up in a caring and secure environment and as a result, a lot of adults live with childhood trauma. Torrie (@finding_torrie on TikTok) sparked an interesting conversation between herself and her parents that helped to heal her inner child.

Torrie asked her parents at Mother's Day brunch who they loved more between their children and grandchildren. Torrie usually documents her journey through motherhood and recovering from toxic relationships on her TikTok page and this recent video has millions of views. It has also encouraged several commentators, who came forward to share their personal experiences with healing their inner child. In this particular video, Torrie expresses how thankful she is for opening up about parenting to her parents.

After posing the question, Torrie didn't expect a surprising response from her father. "He said not more but different. He said 'When I look at your daughter, I don't see her the way you see her'," she revealed. "He said 'I see her as a whole person'." Torrie coaxed him to express his thoughts freely and then he said that he had seen his daughter go from a baby to a woman and that he had known all of the versions of Torrie in between. When Torrie's dad looks at Torrie's daughter, he claims that he sees "not only this beautiful baby but he sees and loves everything she ever is and will be" because he's already seen that potential in his daughter.

To put it simply, Torrie's dad has grown alongside her as well and his love has changed and evolved over time. And yet, the love and care for her remains strong. But when it comes to Torrie's daughter or his granddaughter, he has a newfound love with the same boundless potential for growth. Torrie is visibly emotional at the end of her video as she urges others to go ahead with a little courage and ask their parents the questions they have always wanted. The answers could heal their childhood trauma.

Many people in the comments section could resonate with her. @taamatokk wrote: "My mum said she wishes she never had kids and that she'd have a much nicer life if she didn't have me and that I was an accident that ruined everything." @samillamadingdong quipped: "Sobbing because I will never have this for me or my children. Cut off toxic family years ago. I don't regret the decision ever." @by.tuesdaymanc added: "Love this. My dad told me when I had my first daughter he loves me but god he LOVES her and I was like what? He said it's like loving you but extra." @tiahgordon added: "I gotta say, it’s hard seeing my dad be a fun, loving presence for my nephew when he was moody and absent for us."
