The woman's friends told her not to text the guy back, but she saw the ideal opportunity to get back at him.
It is a general etiquette that one should not keep their date waiting too long to text them back. Nonetheless, a woman, u/WesternFisherman3071, had a similar experience. She went on a date with a guy who took a month to send her a text. Knowing she had to get back at him with "petty revenge," she saw the opportunity and texted something that left the man completely speechless. She shared the story to emphasize why she was not to be messed with.
"So, I went on a date with this guy—we’ll call him Jerry. I knew him through some mutual friends and honestly, I thought the date went fine," the woman began. However, she didn't hear from him for almost a month. "Four weeks passed, and I didn’t hear a peep from Jerry. And when does he finally text me? The day after Valentine’s Day." The man texted her, "What’s up, buttercup? How’s it going?" Her friends told her not to text him back, but she saw an opportunity to teach the man a lesson and went for it. "The night before, my friend and I went to this fancy, swanky club where they had dancing. That’s when inspiration struck," the woman wrote.
The woman created a fictional character named Ben who danced with her "all night" to get back at Jerry. "Enter: Ben, the perfect gentleman." She texted Jerry, "Hey Ben! I’m great—had such a fun time last night. I can’t believe you’ve never danced before; you’re a natural! Also, thanks for showing me the rest of the club—such amazing art!" The woman didn't stop at that because she had to show Jerry that Ben "was a man of class and good manners." She continued, "Ben texted me back within 24 hours of our meeting. So naturally, I followed up with: 'Hey, this is kind of embarrassing, but I just got a text from the real Ben…lol. Is this Anthony from yoga class?'"
She concluded, "Jerry left me on read for a few days, but do I care? Nope. I got my petty revenge, and honestly, I feel great." People in the comments recounted similar stories and remarked on the woman's idea for revenge. u/Seperate_Wall8315 commented, "There was an episode of M*A*S*H 45 years ago with an analog version of that story." u/TheCrystalDoll remarked, "I actually can’t stand how hilarious this is, beautifully done… He deserved nothing less." u/spinxyhiggins shared, "Whenever some gross guy hit on us, my friend and I would say we already had a boyfriend named 'Leonard.' The film 'Leonard' with Bill Cosby had just come out (neither of us watched it but used that name because of the movie.)"
u/Djolumn wrote, "Very early in my relationship with my now-wife, I texted her the day after a date telling her what a great time I had last night, etc. However, due to some failure somewhere in the Intertubes, she didn't receive it until like a week later - on a day when I had not seen her the day before. She just replied, 'I don't think this was meant for me,' which gave me a full-on panic because it was intended for her on the day I sent it. I replied right away that it was meant for her and I'd sent it days earlier. I don't know if she believed me, but that was 14 years ago and she's currently sitting on the other end of the couch, so I guess she's over it?"
