We’ve all had birthday bashes gone wild with missing earrings or scarves and if it’s an 18th birthday, things are bound to go a little crazy. However, when it comes to royalty, wild could mean a real Cinderella leaving behind her sparkly shoe and that’s exactly what happened at Prince Christian of Denmark’s 18th birthday gala that was held on October 15 at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen.

The sparkling, golden heel was posted on the Instagram account @detdanskekongehus of the Danish Royal House captioned, “Is it Cinderella who forgot her shoe last night?" The sense of humor of the palace must’ve definitely uplifted the lady who left behind an essential part of her attire at the birthday gala. The Instagram caption continued to say, “When the guests at Her Majesty The Queen's gala dinner went home yesterday, this lonely stiletto shoe was left at Christiansborg Castle. The owner is welcome to contact us to get it back."

By the looks of another Instagram post made by the Danish Royal House, Prince Christian of Denmark’s 18th birthday gala was a night full of fun and frolic. Elegantly dressed attendees in their sequinned gowns and sharp tuxedos were seen grooving to the beats of Benjamin Hav & Familien. The post caption said that the concert was a surprise by Her Majesty The Queen for all the attendees. The guests seemed to have a “gala” time at the royal birthday bash and it’s no surprise that during one of those beats and moves, a Cinderella for the night forgot her shoe. While it does sound strange that someone could head home with just one shoe on, stranger things have happened in the world.

The case of the missing shoe is not all that went down at the birthday gala dinner. Prince Christian’s birthday bash also gave us a look into the reunion of the royal family on the Royal Palace’s Instagram page. The family portrait shows Prince Christian, second in line to the Danish throne, standing next to Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, Princess Catharina-Amalia of Orange, Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway and Princess Estelle of Sweden. The post was proudly captioned, “Five of Europe's future monarchs gathered for His Royal Highness Prince Christian's 18th birthday.”

The Royal Palace issued an official statement in June regarding the role and capacities of the Prince as he turns 18 in October. The statement posted on their Instagram declared that the Prince’s focus in the current year is on the completion of his high school education. It further said, “It is thus agreed with the State Ministry that support in the Parliament for a law on annuity will only be sought after when the Prince turns 21 or at a possible change of throne if that takes place before.” Finally, it concluded by mentioning that His Royal Highness would be present in a limited, official context.

Coming back to the matter of the missing heel, what remains to be seen is who the real Cinderella was that night and whether this was to win the Prince’s heart or just a run back home so fast that your shoe fell off.
