As a parent, this man is keen on looking out for his three sons even when they are old enough to take care of themselves.
The surging cost of living has significantly impacted many, particularly the youngsters who just stepped into the real world beginning their new jobs. Sometimes, it is hard for such young people to navigate life without the guidance of their parents or other elders. Not many may have the liberty to go back home until they figure out their life path. However, Ben, a doting dad of three who is also an entrepreneur and a content creator, is not ready to let his three sons fight their life battles alone. In his TikTok account Family Future First, the dad shared a crucial message that he and his wife would tell their sons when they are older.
This dad has a five-word message, "You can always come home," that he wants his sons to remember even after they become independent adults. "If you ever feel so incredibly lonely that you need it, come home," the dad said. Life may throw many curveballs when we're adults like relationship issues, financial issues or mental health issues. So, this dad wanted his sons to always know that they have their parents to support them. If their sons faced a relationship failure or struggled mentally, the dad simply wanted them to "come home."
Considering the number of people who are struggling to make ends meet, the dad said, "If it costs too much with your bills, come home." He also added that if anything in life went wrong for their sons and they needed support, they could always come home. "We'll help you fix it," he reassured. "No matter where you are in life, no matter how old you are, no matter the relationship that we have, your home is always our home," Ben added.
Ben pointed out in the caption, "A parent’s job is to be the safety net for their children. We shouldn't push our kids out of the nest and expect them to fly in such a difficult world." Though parents need to raise independent and "resilient" kids, Ben emphasized that the kids must know that their parents will always be there for them. "If they need it, tell them to come home!" the dad advised other parents.
As the video gained over 1.8 million views, the 49-year-old dad from Perth, Australia told Newsweek that he shared this message because he was concerned about the future of his three young boys. "The cost of buying a home, supporting a young family, even finding time to look after themselves - I know it's getting harder for everyone these days. So what will it be like in 20 years?" he added. With the five magic words, the dad intends to make lives easier for his sons. "Hold your family close. Cherish them and make a future for them and with them. Life has changed from 40 years ago. Support for your family is critical," Ben said. His outlook on being a supportive parent resonated well with many on the internet.
"This is the cornerstone of resilience. If you know you have a safe place to fall, you can cope with the hardships of life," remarked @donnichos. "Thank you! I'm tired of the 'tough love' parents. The family home should be your sanctuary," noted @livinatthelake. "My parents have this philosophy and it has saved the lives of my siblings and me multiple times," added @mandamood5.
