Parents never leave their kids' backs; they always step forward to side with them. Yet, oftentimes, parents turn a blind eye to their kids’ mistakes by choosing to defend them instead. However, there are rare instances where parents take responsibility and school their kids — right there in public. Here's a heartwarming Facebook note shared by a parent on September 28, whose online post apologizing for their child's problematic behaviour has the internet saluting him for responsible parenting.

On the popular subreddit, r/MadeMeSmile, Reddit user u/MothersMilk shared a heartwarming post from a dad, who originally posted on Facebook about an incident that every parent must take note of. The anonymous father, who witnessed his kids bullying and picking on another child who was hearing-impaired, felt horrible and revealed how he immediately pulled over to intervene and back the bullied kid. Apologizing for his kids' problematic behavior, the father said that he was sorry for the way they behaved and assured the parents of the child that he was not raising bullies under his watch. The inspiring post read, "I witnessed my kids picking on your kid. I could see how angry he was. I stepped out of the vehicle as soon as I realized what was going on and I intervened and I had his back." The note continued, "I have talked to my children. It won't happen again. Please tell your kiddo that we are so sorry, and expect an apology from my junior high-aged child tomorrow at school. We are not raising bullies here."

The dad's inspiring post is echoed in a popular study authored by Chairunnisa and Dewi in 2023, which examined the effects of parenting on teenage bullying behavior. The study showed that parenting styles that leaned towards being flexible, firm, fair, and logical were associated with lower rates of bullying. In contrast, authoritarian parenting, which expects absolute obedience and preaches that a child needs to be controlled, is linked to higher rates of bullying. Despite the father not punishing his kids, his way of teaching them the difference between right and wrong is exactly what is needed in today's parenting. He neither sided with his children nor treated them harshly; instead, he imparted a lesson that will remain with them for life.

Soon after the post was shared on Reddit, users began to pour in their appreciation for the responsible parenting he showcased. u/Quirky_Butterfly_946 commented, "And that's the way you do it!! Good on you for teaching your child what is acceptable and what is not."
