People react to a story about a dad dining with his kids who got a note when he asked for the bill.
Showing kindness or paying kindness forward is one of the simplest yet most impactful things we can do. We never truly know the struggles others might be facing, and a small gesture of generosity can make a world of difference. One Reddit dad, who goes by u/OmarGooding, shared a heartwarming moment he experienced with his kids while dining out. "I asked our server for the check and got this," he wrote in his post, sparking smiles across the Reddit community.
"My kids and I go out to breakfast weekly. It's special to me, and I love to do it. Reminds me of time spent with my father as a kid," the dad explained. "Sometimes, my wife joins us. Most of the time, though, it's me and the kids. It's our weekly thing. Well, we were at our normal spot for a normal breakfast. We asked for the check and instead, we got this."
He then shared a photo of a handwritten note that captured the unexpected act of kindness, leaving readers deeply touched by the thoughtful gesture.
"For my daughter's birthday, we are doing random acts of kindness. Their dad left, so we picked you for being out with your baby. Enjoy," the brief note from an unspecified person read. "Made my eyes well up a bit. We spent the rest of the day paying forward," the dad wrote and concluded the post, indicating that someone else had paid for their meals. The Reddit community was touched by the act, and many came forward to share their experiences of encountering kindhearted people in various moments of their lives.
u/kcl086 shared, "This happened to me when my husband and I were out to dinner on my due date and a couple near us covered our dessert. It was a $100 per person type place, so even the dessert was appreciated! They were so shocked when they asked when I was due, and I said 'today.'" u/mikey_bigz mentioned, "During my morning routine while grabbing a coffee and breakfast sandwich. Just after ordering in the drive-thru, I reach into the center console for my wallet. I left it at home. I pulled up to the pickup window, prepared to say sorry for my mistake. Before I could get a word out, the cashier said the car in front of me paid. I was in disbelief at the coincidence. I've been riding that high ever since. Always pay it forward."
u/X-Mom-0604 quipped, "I was a single mom for 7 years. I remember taking my daughter out to eat on Father's Day. A nice gentleman waring by himself paid for our meal. I had no idea til I went to pay. People can be so kind." u/OberonEast added, "Around 2003 I worked at a Ruby Tuesday's. There was an older gentleman and his wife that were regulars. The wife was beginning to succumb to Alzheimer's. If you were kind and attentive to his wife, he'd pay with a $100 bill and walk out without getting any sort of change. It didn't matter if they actually had dinner or just had chips and salsa to help her get out for a bit. I still wonder how they're doing."
