'Call me weak, call me lame, but I’m crying because I never thought that could come from me,' he said.
Parents want to see their kids do well, but nothing prepares them for the moment their child achieves something they never expected or thought possible. It’s a feeling that stops you mid-step and makes you reflect not just on their success but also your journey as a parent. One such father, Rambo, shared a video from his car after attending his daughter’s school awards ceremony. Posting the video on his TikTok page @mr.review832, he expressed how he watched his daughter receive four awards and couldn’t hold back his emotions.
"Call me soft, call me what y’all want, but I never expected my child to receive four awards," he said, holding back tears. He paused for a second before adding, "I’ve never been an academic student. I never reached those heights before. Call me weak, call me lame, but I’m crying because I never thought that could come from me." He admitted, "I’m proud of my daughter. I’m proud. Of course, I couldn't cry in front of her face, but I’m proud. I’m f***ing proud." Then, wiping his eyes, he said, "Now I’m on my way to work to go get this bread for her."
His honest and vulnerable reaction struck a chord online, and viewers praised him in the comments. @ric_x wrote, "Crying on behalf of your child is not lame. This is a proud dad moment and many more to come." @nikkol6383 commented, "Your presence and participation in her life are everything. Celebrate her and yourself — celebrate together. Encourage her to keep it up." Some encouraged him to show his vulnerable side to his daughter. @yoyobabydoll79 said, "Sir! You CAN cry in front of your daughter! She should know the love and joy you feel for her. Crying is NOT SOFT, it’s LOVE." @jazzyji206_ added, "Cry in front of her because she needs to see your pride in all its form. So happy for you and congratulations to her."
Others called it a reminder of what fatherhood looks like at its best. @mechanicwells quipped, "I truly understand, my brother. I just had two of mine graduate. I'm a proud and honored father." @nessacerry32 added, "That's an amazing dad right there. Only an actively loving dad will feel this way. Be proud, that's an accomplishment for you, too, having been there for her! I'm proud of you." @abdulaesthetics remarked, "You needed this and probably never knew it. That burden was lifted off your shoulders by your daughter because she came from you. Kudos to you both." @dagreatstrapsby penned, "Oh, and I pray she keeps you so proud and crying (in the best way), lol. Many, many, many more achievements to come!!! Congratulations to both of you."
Another father had an equally proud dad moment when he heard what teachers had said about his four-year-old daughter. In a video posted to Instagram, Jay Porter told his daughter, Rosa, how they called her kind, polite, and a joy to have in class. As Rosa listened and added her own proud affirmations, Jay broke down mid-sentence. "I’m so proud of you, Bubba," he told her softly. When his voice cracked, Rosa asked gently, "Am I making you cry?" Jay gave a teary laugh. "Yeah," he whispered.
