Dad who 'didn't want a cat' sings Whitney Houston's 'I Will Always Love You' to his new best friend

An adorable video of a man and the cat he never wanted in his house has won hearts across the internet. Shared by TikTok user Shaan Renoo—who goes by @the_cat_games—on the video-sharing platform, the heartwarming video montage has been viewed more than 5.2 million times since being posted on April 12. Quickly becoming one of the most popular videos in the "dads and pets they never wanted" corner of the internet, Renoo's video shows his dad, 60-year-old Kamaljeet Singh Renoo aka Raj, fawning over their black-tipped British shorthair cat Angie, just a few months after he vehemently opposed the idea of cats in the house.

The one-minute video begins with Renoo providing evidence of how Raj said no multiple times when asked if they could get a pet cat. Cut to a few months later, Raj is seen jokingly arguing with Angie after she stole his seat on the sofa, telling her "that's my chair," before politely asking if he can sit next to her. He then begins showering his new BFF with compliments and playing with her paws, counting "that's a paw there, 2nd paw there, 3rd paw there, 4th paw there." Before long, his love for Angie bubbles over as he tells her that he will always love her, before quoting the iconic line from the Dolly Parton song, covered by Whitney Houston, "I Will Always Love You."

"Never bite me, do you? Because you love me," Raj is heard telling Angie in the clip. "I'll always love you. I'll put a Whitney Houston song for you every day." Although Angie clearly seems to enjoy the love and attention, her way of reciprocating included some biting and nibbling on her doting dad's arm. Speaking to Newsweek about his father's incredible bond with Angie, Renoo said: "My dad is normally a quiet, moody dad figure around the house."

"Until it gets to the evening, after he's had his first drink, then he lightens up a bit and becomes the joker. So he's got two sides to him," he continued. "He says he hated cats from day one. We have Indian heritage but he grew up in Kenya, he actually grew up in a jungle. He liked wildcats but not housecats, and would avoid going into people's houses that had cats to not get scratched." Yet, when it came to Angie, it was love at first sight for Raj, Renoo revealed.

"After months of pestering my mum for a cat, she gave in. We didn't tell my dad we were getting a cat until it arrived," he explained. "On the day we got the cat, he walked into the room, and I swear on my mum's life, he was so starstruck. I could see he wanted to smile but he didn't break a smile. After about a week of having the cat, I came home from work drinks and he was playing with her and talking to her like a baby. I tried to call her to come to me but she stayed with him."

When Renoo moved to another city for work, Raj took over as Angie's primary caregiver. "My parents really didn't want a cat in the house, but they fell in love with her," said Renoo, who lives in London. In fact, they fell so hard for Angie that Raj had a similar reaction to his son bringing home another kitten. Despite initially being opposed to the idea of another cat, he quickly became friends with the young one as well.
