The dad highlighted how being able to participate in such things was a big deal for him as well as his son.
Parents showing up to a kids' game is considered a crucial trait of being a good parent. However, showing up is not necessarily the easiest thing to do for all parents. A dad, Torbjorn Svensson–who goes by @att_leva_med_rp on Instagram–chose to show up at his son's soccer game regardless of all such challenges. According to his website, the dad suffers from Usher Syndrome, which has caused both hearing and vision loss for him. The dad shared a clip on the platform while attending his son's game.
In the video, the dad could be seen enjoying the game with the help of an interpreter and cheering on his son with utmost joy. The clip was reshared on Reddit by u/mindyour. A person, u/mjolle, shared, "The person behind him is not his partner but an interpreter. Sign language interpreters can learn haptic sign language, which can be used on someone's back to give information on what's happening. Which is what's going on here." In the video's caption on Instagram, the dad shared why participation in his son's life is an important thing for him and how he has to persevere for the same.
He wrote, "Participation. This word might not mean something big for a common man, but on the other side, that word means everything. For me, being able to participate in Hugo's matches is priceless. Because I enjoy it when I am there and get to proudly cheer on my son and above all - Hugo has his dad in place and can share this experience. So participation is everything." The dad continued, "That is why it is so incredibly important that I fight (although it is incredibly difficult at times with all the refusals) to fight for participation. Because it is not just about me." He added, "So when I get the help I need, I am 110%, and with really great interpreters, it will be absolutely great. (I) wanted to get filmed today when Hugo's team (Höganäs BK) met the Klippan at Åbyvallen and showed how well it works when everything falls into place."
"Those are social haptic signals that the interpreter is using and showing how the whole game is going on my back. Unfortunately, our boys lost the game today, but they did an incredibly good job." Svensson explained, "Little fun detail: In front of my feet in the grass, my white stick lies across. The reason for that is that we have found that I move a little bit forward all the time when we use the signals. So, when I start stomping on my stick, I know that it's time to start backing a little again. Otherwise, it will be pretty funny if the interpretation causes me to end up in the middle of the field during the game." People took to the comments to appreciate the dad's efforts to be there for his son.
@matti_juhani85 wrote, "This man had all the excuses to not show up, but he’s still out here supporting his son during his game. More able-bodied people have given less attention to their children." @coachbrittanyturner commented, "At first, I thought this was some kind of cool massage, but then I realized she was detailing the entire game and placement of their child. I love it! Every moment of it. This technique is BEAUTIFUL." @p229x remarked, "For a second, I thought she was making a story with the characters on his shirt and then I realized there was a soccer game."
