Things didn't go down well when a husband lied to his wife so that he could arrive at a Barbie themed halloween party as Batman.
Sometimes your inhibitions turn out to be your worst enemy. This man who refused to let loose and enjoy Halloween ended up spending the night at his friend's and penning a Reddit post about the mishap. This happened because he didn't like the party theme and decided on a Halloween party that his wife's friend had selected. Reddit user u/LowPause6164 asks the subreddit if what he did makes him the bad guy in the situation, and the internet seems to think that he was.
He begins by saying, "I (34 m) am married to my wife (34 f), and we have two kids together. Every year, my wife's family does a family theme for Halloween that we all dress up as." He then says that this year's theme is Barbie (any Barbie movie) and that he simply hates the theme. "I hate this theme and would rather go as something more manly that won't embarrass me in front of my neighbors and friends," he writes.
This is when he decides to work late and tells his wife that he is going as Barbie's love interest from the movie and instead picks out a Batman costume. "When I arrived at the party my wife's sisters met me by the door and got mad at me for wearing this costume. I explained that I didn't like the theme so I chose my own," he said.
Soon, his wife made her way to him and started "yelling" about how selfish he was, and how this is the one time a year that she gets to let loose and have fun. "She told me to leave and I drove to a friend's house and am spending the night out of anger. All of her family is blowing up my phone telling me how selfish I am and calling me every name in the book. I blocked them and told my wife I needed a couple of days to cool down," he adds.
"As I thought about it more, I can see how I was being a little selfish and should have stuck with the theme. But, I don't think I'm the a**h**e for sticking to my own beliefs and having free will in this relationship," he concluded.
Many in the comment section talked about how he was at fault and should have simply gone with the theme. "YTA. I was gonna go with everyone sucks here, and just criticize you for lying about it. But you have two kids, go home and take care of them. You don't get to take off for multiple days over a damn Halloween costume and not come out the a**h**e," wrote u/Bootastical. "Also, I don’t get the manly shit because he’s also a parent. Seems like this was a family thing. My dad is as manly as they come and he dressed up as a princess or various “girly” costumes on multiple occasions throughout my childhood for kids. Because it made us and/or my mom happy," added u/anxious_artist_123. Another says how being honest with his wife would have been a better choice. "YTA: You wouldn't have been the asshole if you told her beforehand you didn't want to the theme. Trying to "surprise" her is where you're an a**h**e."
