Although Aubree intended for the video to be lighthearted, that's not how it resonated with the women who saw it.
Mothers do a lot for their families, and more often than not, they do so unconditionally. However, their love and hard work are often taken for granted by their partners and children. Yet, they take it all with a grain of salt because they love their family. In a video posted on TikTok by a mom named Aubree Jones (@whataboutaub), we witness something which even though posted as a joke, is no joke in reality.
The video starts with Aubree's husband pointing out everyone's stockings in the house. He sees the stuffed stockings of his daughters and then points out his full stocking. He also pointed out his younger brother Golden's full stocking before realizing there was one more that appeared slightly different. This last stocking wasn't filled. Finding this strange, he turned to his wife and asks her who the stocking belonged to. "Whose is this? Is it an extra one?" he asks, to which she replies that the stocking was hers. Hearing this, the husband wonders why it's empty, and when he asks his wife the same, she simply replies, "I didn't know. Santa didn't come for me," with a dry chuckle.
The caption of this video was quite sad and disheartening. It said, "It took him 10 years to notice it's been empty this whole time." And honestly? That's quite disappointing. It's almost like Aubree was so busy making everyone's Christmas better with full stockings, that no one, not even her husband, noticed how little she got during the holidays. She didn't even have a gift from Santa, to say the least. The text overlay in the video said that it was a PSA for husbands everywhere and it sure was. Though Aubree intended for the video to be lighthearted, that's not how it resonated with the women viewing it because they knew this emotion of being overlooked way too well.
@katie_katrina7 said, "The moms create Christmas magic for everyone including the dog but are forgotten every single year." @bric8226 commented, "Whenever I'm confused about something, I say, 'I feel like a dad on Christmas morning' and I like to think it hits home with my husband." @felinefostermama spoke about their last Christmas with their husband and shared, "One Christmas, my husband didn't get me anything. He didn't even help me pick out gifts for our kids. That was our last Christmas together."
@kelsealynnf explained how every woman felt when she said, "This one hits hard. All the micromanaging all year round. Then add on the magic of Christmas for our kids. To have to ask our spouses to make sure to fill our stockings... ONE JOB!" Taking a stand for herself and asserting how she would be treated, @zelilmermaid commented, "'Santa didn't come for me' - I swear I will never let a man treat me this way. As if I don't even exist. So sorry to all the forgotten moms and wives."
Speaking to TODAY about the video, Aubree said: "I know it looks like I was sad sitting off to the side with no gifts surrounding me, but I wasn’t sad at all. I was doing what most moms do, which is just enjoying my kids being happy on Christmas morning.” She added that her husband, Josh, hasn't let her have an empty stocking on Christmas morning since the incident in 2021 and that she woke up to a stocking filled with thoughtful gifts the following year. "It was a really pleasant surprise, and the morning felt extra special for me," the mom of five stated. Sharing his takeaway from all this, Josh said: "I listened. I’m not the best historically with gifts, but it’s one of Aubree’s love languages and I’ve gotten way better."
