Dad highlights why men need to spend a 'thought' on their family during the holiday season

More often than not, gift-giving during Christmas is perceived as a woman's job. This man explains why the lack of a man's involvement during gift-giving on such occasions is a bad thing.

Christmas is undoubtedly the happiest time of the year. The weather, the markets, the gifts and the music - it is all perfect. Different people have different Christmas traditions, but the bottom line of them all is the same - to spread smiles and cheers. However, sometimes the one who works the most for our happiness is the one we tend to forget about. In a video posted on TikTok by World Shaker (@world.shaker), he talks about how and why men need to be more involved in the thoughtful parts of Christmas.

He begins by mentioning who this video is for and says, "If you're a man in a relationship with a woman and you both exchange gifts during the holidays, I just want to share one thing with you." He says that a few years ago, he saw a video of a woman on TikTok wherein she spoke about the importance of men being thoughtful towards their partners, especially during the holidays. Since a lot of women are often overlooked by their families and especially their significant others during Christmas, they go online to talk about it. Now these are women who are extremely overlooked, often forgotten or just not considered.

He continues that these are the "women who had spent a tremendous amount of time investing in the holiday magic for their partner and their family." Sadly enough, they're also the ones who despite filling everyone else's stockings, are the ones with their stocking hanging empty unless they fill it themselves. He describes these women further and says, "Women who received gifts that were very impersonal and out of touch or might have been tied directly to things in the home like a vacuum cleaner." Such presents often feel like an obligation or a favor being done by the person across. And this behavior hurts more when it comes from someone we love.

The young woman's video he mentioned earlier was based on the premise that her mother had been overlooked at Christmas and that her dad claimed he had no idea what to get her for the holiday. And that's when the woman said something unforgettable. She said, "You don't have to spend a dime. I just wanna know that you spent a thought for me and not at the last minute." This simple line has so much depth in it because it emphasizes the fact that the gifts that make people feel warm often don't come from money - they always come from the heart. Today's Christmas feels like all of the work has been given to the women to make a holiday full of magic.

He ends the video on a strong note saying, "If you don't know what your kids are getting for Christmas, if you haven't gotten anything or planned anything for your partner or your kids yet, you have over a month to get it right." The comment section shared a lot of stories as well as empathy for those who just now realized that this video described them. @tameraowens1 said, "I still vividly remember my mom sitting by the tree trying not to cry when she realized there was nothing for her. It's been 51 years." @elleninfrejus commented, "The year I bought him a mountain bike and designer shades he gave me 2 cooking spoons from Walmart. I requested my divorce on Christmas day!" However, just like exceptions exist everywhere - we have one here too. @antitrust80 said, "Dad of five girls here. Bought moms and everyone else’s gifts months ago."
