In a video shared online by the teen, her father can be heard asking her what she was going to tell him. She then breaks the big news to him.
Love holds space for our truth and makes us feel at peace. It is gentle and accepting of who we truly are and even proud of it. A teen named Connie Kingston experienced this when she came out to her father recently.
A video of Kingston's phone call with her dad—which went viral on TikTok—captured her father, Michael Kingston, embracing her truth in the most heartwarming manner. In the clip, he can be heard asking her what she had to tell him. Kingston replies: "Daya is not my friend." When asked why she said that, she revealed that the young woman named Daya is actually her girlfriend. Upon hearing this news, her father says: "Oh, that is cool."
He adds that he really likes Daya as a person and that "she is wonderful and so are you." At this point, Kingston had tears in her eyes. Then, her father asks her if she was worried about how he would respond to her coming out and she admits that she was. Michael then says, "Honey I love you so much too." The video has touched the hearts of many and gained 3.4 million views and 25k comments on TikTok.
Kingston also posted the video on Instagram and gave some context in the caption. She wrote, "Don’t really share things like this but. Here we are. I love you Dad and I love you Dayaresi my amazing girlfriend I love all the support we are getting. Unfortunately, my GF’s parents do not support us. But yesterday this gave me and Daya so much hope and reassurance. If any of my family sees this as well. I hope you guys support us too and I love you guys so much."
Many Instagram users were quick to comment on the post. @kangfrvr wrote, "I’m so happy for you this made my entire day." @savagehenry commented, "I’ve only met your dad twice now, but each time I could see how much he loves and supports you. You’re both very lucky to have each other." Meanwhile, @mightnovaantics expressed, "I can't be crying at work. People gonna think I'm soft. This is beautiful." @neverlesspr wrote, "Got really emotional so happy to see you happy! You both have the love and support you all need right here. Sending a big hug! Proud of you, Connie!"
Kingston eventually shared another video on TikTok, in which she is seen talking to her dad. This video came on popular demand as many social media users wanted to see her loving father. In the video, Michael is seen reading the comments on the original TikTok video. Kingston tells him, "Everyone wants to know who you are" and he humbly replies, "I am no one, truly."
She explains that her dad is camera-shy and thanks everyone for their support and kind words, which she says means everything to her. She added that she is also sharing this video for people who have not been able to find similar support and to show parents how to respond when their children come out to them. What a warm video and a heartfelt message to share!
