Alabama man mistakenly orders burger from 1012 miles away, stuns them with a note and $40

To use that extra money, Laura Clarke confirmed that she and her husband would give free icecreams to kids in the summer.

A little kindness goes a long way! Nova Scotians Darcy and Laura Clarke, owners of a burger joint in Canada, had the profound realization when they received a $40 bill along with an apology letter in their mail, CBC reported. The stranger claimed to be a customer who'd mistakenly placed an order at their restaurant, Bentley's Burgers and Fries in West Chezzetcook, N.S. The food joint had posted the letter on Facebook on November 6.

The stranger from Alabama apologized for a goof-up and paid the bill for his unclaimed order. In their letter, they explained that they had to order food from a different Bentley's restaurant, closer to their residence, but placed the order at Clarke's outlet instead. On October 1, Darcy received a phone call for a take-out order for two cheeseburgers and fries. "I noticed there was a southern accent to it. [It was] no big deal because we get tours coming through all the time. I took the order and just went on about our day, " Darcy said. He took the order, and they prepared it, but nobody came to claim it. The Clarkes, perhaps, didn't want to waste food, so they gave it away to a different customer. The day passed by, and the restaurant owners almost forgot about it until they received the letter and the cash in the mail. The letter read, "I was unable to pick up the order because I live in the USA. Obviously, I called the wrong restaurant." The stranger wished the amount they had sent with the letter was enough to cover the bill for their unclaimed order.

"I hope that the amount enclosed is enough to cover the cost of my embarrassing mistake," they added. Laura confirmed that the amount the stranger had sent them was, in fact, more than enough for the burger and fries order. To use that extra money, she confirmed that she and her husband would give free icecreams to kids in the summer. Their restaurant also has a unique story and was, in fact, named after their dog, Bentley. Now, the couple wants to ensure the kind Alabamian knows the positive impact their gesture has had on them. They added that they would send a Christmas package to the return address on the envelope.

Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, Iain Webster commented, "The fact that they took the time to look up the address and send a handwritten note is brave for me." Similarly, Larry Gleason said, "There are always really nice people around who take responsibility for their own mistakes. Canadian or American, or from wherever, there are just nice people. Thank you for your thoughtfulness." Jeff Sahulka wrote, "This is a wonderful story. They are decent, respectful people with a quality community conscience."

Davan Myles shared, "Some people are just crazy honest. I received some checks from Costco this week due to a credit card snafu with 2 charges, which they had already credited me back in September, 4 in total, 2 each of the same amount.  The lady who handled the call had me on hold for 15 minutes because 'This never happens.' Trust me, I could have spent that 700 dollars on toys I don’t need too easily, but I would have felt guilty for far too long."
