With the rise of smartphone usage globally, people increasingly rely on food delivery apps, bypassing the traditional process of planning and preparing meals at home. While restaurants, eateries, and cafes have always been part of the dining experience, customers now often seek to personalize their orders with quirky requests. One such instance occurred when a customer made a unique request to Olive Garden for a delivery with an Italian accent, adding a humorous twist to the experience. The amusing request was shared in a viral Reddit post by u/Marucox, capturing the attention of many.

The diner took the American-Italian restaurant chain’s popular slogan, “When you're here, you're family,” quite seriously. While placing an order through the restaurant's app, the Italian cuisine enthusiast selected the special requests category. Not only did they want to indulge in signature dishes, but they also wanted a unique experience—a literal “tour of Italy” without leaving home. Olive Garden, known for its customer service, embraced the quirky request and delivered the surprise in style, much to the delight of the customer.

“Thinking of the time I ordered from Olive Garden online. I put, 'please speak to me in an Italian accent' in the special requests category and completely forgot about it,” stated the customer in the post, originally shared in November 2020. They had no idea the restaurant chain would actually fulfill their unusual request. Meanwhile, they were eagerly awaiting the delicious food to be delivered to their home.

Furthermore, when the delivery agent arrived, the customer, like anyone else, received a notification confirming their order had arrived. “And when I went out to pick it up, the guy who came goes like, ‘Eyyy, I got-a your-a order, bappada boopity!’” the post added. The customer was initially taken aback by the response and struggled to believe what was happening. They had no expectations that the restaurant chain would actually fulfill their wild delivery request.

The customer, who had shared the experience on Tumblr back in the day, was both shocked and amused to hear the words coming from the delivery man’s mouth. “When I told him (the agent) that he didn’t actually have to do it, he was like, ‘A-nooo, I was-a looking forward to it!’” the post continued. “‘I was-a the only one-a brave enough to do it!’” the agent revealed, sparking a humorous reaction from the Olive Garden customer.

The recent Reddit post captioned the wholesome delivery experience with "Mamma mia." Notably, the post detailing the unique food delivery managed to draw widespread attention on the social platform, receiving 75,000 upvotes and countless comments. Among them, u/StressCanBeGood remarked, “For a few years now, I’ve been listing my name as ‘Poindexter McGillicutty’ when ordering food for takeout. Only a couple of nights ago, an employee finally had the nerve to ask whether Poindexter was my real name. Been waiting for this for years.” “I worked at a restaurant, and the meals can be named separately. We had Mama Bear, Papa Bear and Pookie Bear. A 13-year-old boy comes in and asks for his mom’s order under ‘Normal Name,’” u/DefinitelyNotAliens recalled.
