When it comes to avoiding assignments or making an excuse for not completing them on time, some students are nothing but total geniuses. From "I forgot" to "My dog ate my homework", the excuses students come up with are both hilarious and often impressive. What begins as an excuse often turns into a full-blown saga, leaving everyone in stitches. On a related note, Professor Morgan Hunter's (@moproblems0) student went above and beyond with a creative request for an assignment extension. Instead of a simple request, he wrote and recorded a song for his professor. Hunter shared the hilarious video on TikTok, where it crossed 16 million views.

"I found out yesterday that my statistics exam is tomorrow and I am wildly underprepared for it," the student wrote in an email to Professor Morgan. He went on to explain that he had been focusing solely on studying for the exam, leaving him no time to complete her assignment. However, the most surprising part came when Morgan opened the message attachment. Instead of a typical request, she was greeted by an original song the student had written, requesting an extension. In the quirky lyrics, he explained that his laptop had crashed and he hadn't saved his work, needing a few more hours to submit it. His creative plea for more time was truly one-of-a-kind!

Moreover, the student took it a step further, playfully blaming his dog for the mishap, singing, "Oh! I forgot to mention something not great. My dog ate my router and I don't have power." Professor Morgan couldn't help but share the amusing song, with onscreen text reading, "I swear college kids these days will do ANYTHING except write their actual essays." The video highlighted the lengths students will go to delay assignments, turning ordinary excusesw into creative masterpieces. From dogs eating routers to laptop crashes, students seem determined to earn extra time with their inventive pleas.

The TikTok video received an overwhelming response from netizens, who were amused by the student's creativity and humor in requesting an extension. For instance, @ioverthunk commented, "If I were the professor: You can get an extension except, I want another song showing he grasps key concepts of the course and assignment as an alternate assignment." @franklyshea wrote, "No, he clearly has a backup career if college doesn’t work out. Beautiful song though." Similarly, @cass.astrologia wrote, "Some people just aren't 'school-smart' but are obviously highly talented in other areas. Lovely!"

@phunkybrewster wrote, "I could never be a teacher. Because this would be the cheat code to get me to agree to anything." Meanwhile, @soheavenlyhel commented, "Not only would I give him an extension, I’d also give him the option to do the essay in song format. It would need to meet all the essay requirements." On the other hand, @cindy_cao_ commented, " I must be getting old and cranky because I would just say, 'If you had time to make that song, you would’ve had time to write the essay.'"

Coming back to Professor Morgan, she uploaded another TikTok video revealing whether or not the student got his extension. "The short story answer is yes. The entire class got an extension. The long story is that the entire class already had an extension prior to this song because our university was hit by two hurricanes this semester," she added. Professor Morgan also explained the reason behind the student's song. "It was part of an assignment that was focussed on a community and the community he chose was Indie music fans," she said.
