She thought her coworker was an 'alien,' and asked him one question. 3 days later, he simply vanished

He was a fat, white man with bulging eyes and a funny walk, but it was his smell that she couldn't get over

In life, one often sees things that make them stop and wonder if they're living in the 'real world.' In a scenario that reminded people of Resident Alien, a woman named Zrwantinie Valentine (@murder.zee.wrote) experienced this feeling, not once, but each time she encountered her co-worker, Wayne. In a May 4, 2026, post on Instagram Threads, Valentine revealed how she confronted Wayne at their Houston office and asked him where he was from. Three days later, he vanished, further fueling her suspicions. Valentine's post invited millions of reactions, including 9,000 likes and over 1,400 comments.

His otherworldly 'look'

“Have you all ever met someone and got the feeling they weren’t from Earth? I used to work with a man that I kept telling my coworkers was an alien,” Valentine wrote. She was hoping the guy would tell her that he was from “planet 53789” or someplace that wasn’t Earth. Everything about him was a bit odd, including the way he carried himself. "He was about 5’10. Fat with a short cut. Regular hands. Bulging eyes. A smell I can’t even describe because I’ve never smelled anything [like] it. He was nice to me," she described, adding that the man had a very welcoming energy, not ominous.

One question spooked him

The other day, she asked him where he was from. His reply would only confirm her suspicions about him being an alien. “Honey, I’m from very, very, very, very, very, very far from here,” he told her. The following day, around 6:30 am, when she reached the office, her manager revealed that he had filed a request for transfer, and three days later, he was gone. Describing him with “Men in Black alien-took-over-a-human-body vibes,” the woman asked Instagram whether her question made him run from the office.

Do scientists believe in aliens?

While the instance may sound a bit lighthearted, in the scientific community, the existence of aliens is viewed with utter optimism and seriousness. A 2025 study published in the journal Nature Astronomy documented a survey of over 1,000 scientists and astrobiologists. 86.4% of the astrobiologists agree that extraterrestrial life exists. 58.2% of the scientists also believe in the existence of intelligent aliens.

@your_favorite_gay29 said, “I believe they are among us.” @captain_uniqua remarked, “I met a couple that just had a baby. Neither of them looked like earthlings. They were gorgeous but in a very unsettling way. No one could convince me that they were human.” Some people, like @burnsbluearts, took the episode as a metaphor for a feeling, calling themselves an alien in the human world. The woman clarified that the one she’s talking about was “genuinely odd,” not just on this spectrum of feeling.
