Couple recounts the hilarious chaos that ensued at their funeral for missing 13-year-old cat: 'Meow'

"Back from the dead" is usually just a joke we hear being thrown around but recently for one family, this joke turned true. A viral TikTok video posted by @momchats and titled “A breakfast miracle” featured the couple behind the account recounting the unforgettable turn of events they and their three children bore witness to. The video begins with the couple decorating cookies as the mom gives a serious disclaimer amidst roars of laughter: “Never have a funeral for a pet unless you are certain that they have passed.”

She shakes her head in a little dance and goes on to explain what “happened” at their house that day. At around 8 p.m. that day, the cat parents realized that they had not seen their cat “Kitty” for several hours. Even though they had good reason to believe she might have passed as she is 13 years old, they frantically searched for the cat everywhere. The couple jokingly shared, “Every cupboard is open, every door is open. Car with the windows down, playing on repeat the sound of a can opener.” The search went on till 3 a.m., so they decided to get some sleep and resume in the morning. 

After barely three hours of sleep, they got up at six in the morning and began searching again. The dad shared, “I borrowed the neighbor’s thermal camera.” Finally, they reached a point where “she’s nowhere to be found” and their kids were then “starting to ask questions”. The mom then shared how she “didn’t have the heart to tell them that someone might have let her outside” because she felt that they would’ve “taken it very personally.” Instead, the parents told their kids, “The kitty is at the vet and she’s very sick and she’s very old and the kitty’s probably not coming home.” They further said that their kids were “devastated” and they decided that it was time for “a funeral.”

The kids had a special “request” for the funeral, that of “love heart waffles.” The time for the funeral arrived and the family of five was “sitting at the table, full-blown funeral mode for the cat” and everyone was “sharing their favorite memories about Kitty” when the miracle actually happened. The dad recalled: “All of a sudden I hear something and I’m like everyone stop talking, stop crying please for a second, and I just hear ‘meow!’” The couple can be seen bursting into fits of laughter at this point while recollecting the hilarious moment.

He further said, “We’re all sitting there like, is this the voice from above? Again I hear ‘meow’ and I think it’s coming from the garage which I checked at least six times! So, I run to the garage and open the door and kitty just bolts into her own funeral!” The couple can barely hold their laughter while describing the reaction of their kids. The couple continued, enacting their kid’s reaction: “Our five-year-old! He sits standing on his chair like ‘It’s a miracle!’” 

The couple takes a breath before concluding the video with, “Their cat showed up to her own funeral!” and burst out laughing again. The hilarious video went viral for this chaotic narration of "the cat who got back from the dead" and the comments section was rolling with laughter, not just on the story but also the chemistry of the couple. @henry_reads wrote, “I love everything about this... the story, your chemistry, the A+ parenting, and the way you guys are doing those paint-your-own cookies.” @amandabanta625 shared her similar experience, “We literally did this with my family cat. All crying hysterically and look over to see our cat staring at us through the window from outside.”
