Nothing quite compares to the charm and craftsmanship of vintage housing structures. For this reason, many people are drawn to older homes that carry the history and character of decades gone by. Courtney and Matt, known as @living_in_history on TikTok, joined this trend by purchasing a 130-year-old house. Shortly after moving in, they received an intriguing letter that hinted at the house’s hidden secrets, setting them off on a journey of discovery.

The letter, addressed to the “purchaser” of the home, came from the last surviving member of the family that once lived there. Courtney read aloud, “I would like to brief you about the secret rooms and the little things that may not have been told when you bought the house.” The letter detailed the existence of three hidden rooms and provided instructions on how to find them.

In a follow-up video, the couple shared the discovery of the first secret room. Located near a fireplace, the entrance was concealed behind a panel they hadn’t noticed before. Upon lifting the panel, they uncovered an unexpected stash: alcohol of all kinds, possibly dating back decades. The couple’s adventure not only unveiled the house’s unique features but also captured the imaginations of viewers fascinated by its storied past.

Right from beers to antique alcohol bottles, all were arranged and kept in the space. In part three of their hunt, Courtney read from the letter where the next secret room was. “The second secret room is in the washroom directly in the door opposite the wall,” the letter read. Courtney cautioned her viewers that the bathroom was the “scariest room.” The couple opened the bathroom and went towards the panels under which a supposed secret room was hidden. As they removed the panels, the couple found quite a space, which they presumed to have been an attic but was covered with pipes and other equipment

Courtney also found a door opposite the wall, as mentioned in the letter, which led to another huge space. “We’re going to try and figure out how to use this space, but for now, it’s just a cool room,” Courtney said. In another video, the couple shared that the third secret room was in the basement. “The letter says that as you go in the basement, there is a retaining wall, but the past owner has boarded the wall,” she explained. There were kinds of wood pieces and other elements put together to close the wall. Courtney looked through a peephole and could see that there was quite a lot of space behind the wall.

“I think this is what she’s talking about,” she remarked. She found a space and slid her phone in to capture the sight and saw a massive space behind the wall. While the 3 rooms weren’t exquisite, they were certainly unusual and quite secretly built. @samuraifingers wrote, “I think that’s a crawl space or foundation area? Still cool though.” @kiralauth said, “My parents have a house built in the late 1800s and they have a secret room to store coal.”
