'It’s not all poetry; it’s pizza toppings and inside jokes.'

A couple decided to ditch traditional wedding vows and read their first texts to each other instead, and left everyone in fits of laughter. The heartfelt story (u/objectivesad5484) was shared on Reddit on October 26, 2025.

The couple wanted something meaningful for their wedding vows — words that captured the spirit of their love and bond. So, instead of the usual vows, they secretly picked up five screenshots from their first month of texting. The texts were hilarious; it wasn't anything one would witness at a wedding altar, but it was 'raw,' 'funny,' and represented the couple. "Standing there at the altar, reading lines like: 'I can’t believe you actually like pineapple pizza too?' 'If this goes somewhere, I’m totally blaming your bad jokes,' and the classic: 'Fine, I’ll watch that Marvel movie if you promise snacks,'" they shared. People loved it; in fact, the wedding guests felt a whirlpool of emotions. "Everyone was crying-laughing. You could literally feel the love and the history in those stupid texts," the bride wrote. In the end, the groom ended his vows with, "From that first text to this one moment, I’d still swipe right on you every time." This was special because it turned out exactly how they dreamed. They met each other, fell in love, and had been swiping right on each other since. "Reading your old messages reminds you exactly why you fell in love," she wrote.
We didn’t write traditional vows we read our old texts from when we first started dating… and everyone lost it 😭😂

Vows exchanged between partners on their wedding day are a declaration of lifelong commitment. While traditional vows are equally heartwarming, there is something more special about reading personalized vows. In fact, to understand if the trend of writing wedding vows has become popular, in 2021, The Knot Real Wedding Study surveyed married couples, and 47% of them had written their own, personalized vows for their wedding. Meanwhile, everybody loved the couple's idea of ditching traditional vows for reading out their old texts to each other. For instance, u/lovelopetir commented, "This is one of the sweetest, most real things I’ve ever read. There’s something so special about seeing love grow from those silly, everyday conversations. It’s not all poetry; it’s pizza toppings and inside jokes. You guys nailed what marriage is actually about."

I would screenshot his messages because I never wanted to forget his kindness and how treasured he made me feel. Eleven years later, and I still find myself taking screenshots of his messages. Congratulations! Love is grand." Similarly, u/konjac_0987 confessed, "That is the sweetest! When my friend got married, her maid of honor read the texts my friend sent after her first date with her husband; it was so endearing and funny!" u/kingrichard4342 said, "I now wish I could go back and save all my old texts with my wife, just to make a collage for our anniversary. This was a LOVELY idea on your part. Congrats on the marriage, with many wonderful years together yet to come!"
