He saw police at his doorstep on his Ring camera and panicked — what his neighbors reported made him want to hug them

The United States is considered to be one of the most individualistic countries in the world, but certain people show that sense of community still runs strong, and this story is the perfect example of that. Bryan Stokes (@bforeal) took to Instagram to share footage caught on his Ring camera from March 18. The clip showed two young women checking in on him after not seeing him for almost a month. The video went viral, and received 6.8 million views, 700,000 likes, and 4,601 comments. 

Worried neighbors

Stokes explained in the caption that he often traveled for work and would be away for days. His neighbors noticed that his trash can hadn't moved in a few days and were worried about him. The woman and her cousin came to his front door, speaking to the Ring camera, asking if he was okay. Since he did not respond, they went ahead and called the Edgewood Police Department to do a welfare check. When the police officer arrived on the scene, he knocked twice, waiting for someone to answer, and when nobody responded, he was seen walking around back and forth, seemingly worried. Thankfully, Stokes noticed the activity on his camera and responded right away.

The reaction that followed

Stokes spoke to the officer through the Ring doorbell and told him that he was actually in Pittsburgh for work. He had been away for 5 weeks, and the officer confirmed that the neighbors told him they hadn't seen him in a month. He told the officer he was on a break when he noticed him in front of his house, and decided to respond to see what was going on. Stokes was grateful for the neighbors' concern and asked the officer to relay the message that he appreciated them. The officer also thanked Stokes in return for answering and putting his mind at ease.

Americans and their Ring doorbells

Ring doorbells are equipped to notify the house owners of any suspicious activity and provide real-time alerts. They provide homeowners a sense of security since they offer real-time video surveillance. In the case of Stokes, he was able to confirm his safety with the officer because of the features provided by Ring. The Home Security Market Report in 2026 revealed that 61% of American households have a security camera in their home, which is a huge increase from 52% in 2024. 74.9 million homes are equipped with both indoor and outdoor cameras, and out of these, 43% of homeowners use Ring as their "primary system."

The comments were flooded with people who praised the two women for being concerned enough to check on their neighbor. @mellowsoul253 wrote, "That's how neighbors should be." @wolfsrh commented, "This gives me a little hope for humanity." Ring, the doorbell company, even commented on the post, writing, "A blessing to have such wonderful neighbors."
