The helpless father narrated the scam and revealed he had no money to celebrate his toddler's birthday. Heartbroken, the officers decided to intervene and save her big day.
When a DoorDash driver called 911 after scammers stole his entire paycheck, he expected officers to take a report, hand him a case number, and walk away. But Phoenix police officer Tanner Schnieder and Alessandro Figuccio from the Cactus Park Precinct refused to let the helpless father suffer alone. When the officers reached the victim's residence, he informed them about the alleged scam and how it emptied his bank account just a day before his daughter's birthday. Refusing to let the scammer ruin the toddler's birthday, the officers went above and beyond to save her special day, Arizona's Family (@azfamily) reported on October 12, 2026.
The Phoenix delivery driver answered a fraudulent call pretending to be DoorDash support. They convinced him that his courier profile had been suspended and instructed him to enter security codes at an automated kiosk. The DoorDash driver followed their directions, only to watch his entire recent paycheck disappear in seconds. He had just cleared his rent and car payment and had nothing left in his account.

Frustrated, he called 911, and officers Schneider and Figuccio reached his home to take a report. "He had his daughter sitting there in a high chair eating, and he’s just starting to break down to us. And I look in, and I see his daughter, and then it hits me," Schnieder said. The helpless father narrated the scam and revealed he had no money to celebrate his toddler's birthday. Heartbroken, the officers decided to intervene and save her big day.

They drove to a store and started filling a cart with all sorts of gifts for the birthday girl. The officers picked up clothes, toys, and even a small pink bicycle with tassels. "We just started throwing stuff in the cart. We’re like, 'Dude, if I was his daughter, I’d be happy as heck,'" Schneider said. They paid for the items before returning to the man's house. As soon as they presented him with the gifts, the DoorDash driver broke down and asked to hug them.
Unfortunately, what happened to the DoorDash driver is quite common. The Federal Trade Commission's 2024 report found that Americans have lost more than $12.5 billion to fraud in 2024. This is a striking 25% increase from the previous year. Similarly, the report found that roughly $2.95 billion was lost to imposter scams.

The incident drew a lot of attention on social media, with people praising the officers for going out of their way to help the father. @Giginfl commented, "These officers are amazing. I hope the word gets spread about the DoorDash scammers! I have seen a few videos about it! These drivers are trying to make a living… I hope there is a way to stop these scams ( I know probably not)." Meanwhile, @PeggyMcCormick said, "Beautiful gesture. Thank you to these nice cops. I hope this Dad gets all the help he needs."
