'Are you serious?' West asked as Kara's heart was steadily sinking.
Couples tend to worry about something going wrong on their wedding day. The pressure is usually off by the time they're on their way to their honeymoon. But the relief did not last long for 25-year-old Kara Lewis Webb (@karaxlewis) and 33-year-old West Webb. On October 11, five minutes into their drive, an officer stopped the Webbs' vehicle. Kara thought it was because of a missing headlight or an issue with their tag, but apparently it was "worse." When the cop began questioning West, her "heart sank," she admitted. Kara shared a clip of the encounter on October 14, and it racked up 9.8 million views, over 830,000 likes, and 1,400 comments. The newlyweds revisited the bizarre wedding-night encounter in an October 22, 2026 interview with PEOPLE, saying it became one of the most unforgettable moments of an otherwise “perfect” day.
Kara and West got married at Ramble Creek in Athens, Tennessee, on October 11. She told the outlet, "It could not have gone more perfect, and was everything we had hoped for." However, five minutes into their drive after they left the wedding venue, Kara recalled, "We saw the blue and red lights flashing in the rearview mirror. Initially, I assumed we were getting pulled over for a missing headlight or maybe an issue with our tags. But no, apparently it was much worse."
The officer walked up to West and asked him, "Have you ever been in California?" West responded with an affirmative. The officer followed, "Well, have you had a speeding ticket there that you never took care of? Because I have a warrant for your arrest." That was the moment Kara's heart sank. She was confused and could not believe what was happening. West asked, "Are you serious?" but the officer immediately laughed and said, "No, I'm kidding. Be careful, slow down. I got jokes... Congratulations again," and then left. Kara said, "Of all the ways we could have ended our wedding night, this was certainly not one we saw coming... One thing for sure is, we will be telling this story for the rest of our lives."
People are pretty divided over pranks. In an April 1, 2025 YouGov survey of 5,173 U.S. adults, 44% said April Fools’ pranks were amusing, while 41% found them annoying. More than half — 54% — said they had been successfully fooled by a prank at least once. Kara and West, however, took the officer’s joke in stride and even said they’d be happy to take him out to lunch.

Netizens thought the officer was hilarious for the prank. @hammybanks commented, "No way he did that." @lindsay.kinateder added, "The way your husband's heart sank into his gut before the police officer said, 'No, I'm just kidding' came out in the relief of the laughter almost in tears."
