The newbie reached out after over a year, only to accuse the employee of messing up and asking them to fix things

When it comes to firing or laying off employees, it should be done with a valid reason and with a proper procedure. The aim is to ensure that both parties are not left helpless and struggling. An employee who goes by u/steepledou shared a post on February 1 about how they were abruptly laid off while in the middle of important projects. With no other way to handle the situation, the worker had to comply. However, 14 months later, the recruit reached out to them, accusing them of “messing up” a crucial project. However, the employee didn’t stand down. Very effortlessly, they rendered an epic response, winning the hearts of thousands online.
My replacement contacted me for help 14 months after I was fired. I blocked him immediately.

“HR, my manager, and his manager sat me down and told me to drop everything immediately. And that's exactly what I did,” they wrote in their post. The person who replaced them was not well-qualified for the role and had some tiff with the former worker. “He sent this email accusing me of messing up a setting in a project I was forced to abandon,” they said. Since the email was sent on a Friday afternoon, their first response was not to prioritize something that disrespected them and that they had nothing to do with anymore. The following Monday, the recruit “replied to his own email to bump it, and then had the audacity to message my personal phone.”

However, the employee was not having it. They had ignored the email, but when the newbie reached out on their personal phone, they blocked him. “Then I went and blocked him on LinkedIn for good measure,” they added. There were so many things wrong with the situation, the worst being the disrespectful and accusatory way of reaching out. The recruit could have contacted with humility and professionalism, but chose not to. Moreover, reaching out with a problem after over a year meant there was nothing the former employee could do anyway.
Describing the situation as “illogical,” they wrote, “This is what happens when a company fires someone who knows their job and brings in someone cheaper who knows nothing, just to save money.” They noted that if the person needed more information on their work, they would have reached out earlier, when the employee was in a position to help. “They explicitly told me not to access the system, and if I had gone in to reset anything, it would’ve looked extremely suspicious,” they remarked. A lot of employees in the U.S. are being laid off for multiple reasons. According to data from Challenger, Gray & Christmas, there has been a 24% increase in job cuts in the U.S market since last year. Employers have announced over 74,000 job cuts in 2025.

These cutoffs have been seen in the technology, telecommunications, service, retail, food, media, and non-profit industries. The top reasons cited were Artificial Intelligence and Job or market conditions. AI was responsible for around 6,280 cuts, whereas economic and market conditions accounted for 15,755 job cuts. In the process of searching for profit for the company, employers lose out big by letting go of honest, loyal, and skilled employees. And that’s the case with this worker as well. And according to the internet, they did right by ignoring the delayed, cruel, and ruthless demand. u/JamesWjRose said, “My response is always, ‘My rates for consultation are $100 per hour, minimum two hours, and require a $5000 retainer.’” u/Hefty-Squash131 added, “Something similar happened to me. I told them to kick rocks.”
