TV shows and movies are a great way to escape to "delulu" land. Often, things shown in mainstream media are so inaccurate that they can give anyone heartbreak. No one can have the life Blair and Serena had in New York. The rosy views show like "Gossip Girl" presented are exactly opposite to what real New York is actually like. Benton McClintock–who goes by @bentonmcclintockon TikTok–gives a tearful rant about how the movies and shows fooled him about New York in a hilarious video. Everything that he thought about living in the Big Apple was turned over its head with his experience of rude people, overcrowded streets and dirt at every corner.

Benton McClintock is a comedian and content creator who puts out funny takes about his life in New York. This video has been written from the POV of a new graduate student who has moved to the city from Alabama. The chap clearly had a lot of expectations fostered by movies and television shows, but the reality has not been up to the mark. He shares, "It's so lonely. It's disgusting. Like, it's so dirty." All the expectations he cooked up watching his favorite shows have been absolutely shattered. He puts to words his insane dreams, "I thought I was gonna be, like, living in the West Village and, like, you know, dating, like, a rich man who's like, an heir to a Fortune 500 company."

In McClintock's actual reality, he is "waiting in line at a place called Pianos every weekend to just, you know, get drinks spilled on me by frat bros." He does not have friends like Carrie from "Sex and the City" to go through this predicament as he has been stranded by all his Greek friends. No one prepared him for this. The movies were a waste and even the internet did not give an accurate description. Not only does he not have his Mr. Big in sight, but there is no Samantha to pick him up. He has to go through this harsh New York City life all by himself and all he wants to scream is, "Why did no one tell me this?"

People, at first, were fooled by McClintock's teary-eyed prattle but when they scrolled down to the comments section, they figured it was all for a comic purpose. "LOL I’ve been in the city for 12 years and not gonna lie, this is me on a bad day after a minor inconvenience," commented @badpreservationist while @camiwashere3 added: "Oh my God, the funniest thing is when people don’t understand your sense of humor."

The other videos in his account also capture the ugly facets of the city. In one of his videos, he showed how the city cannot even keep a dog in check and appealed for the safe return of the beloved Eddie. Though he might hate the city, he loves the dog and says, "He is the cutest baby and we need to find him. HELP." Another video has him mocking people's definition of a sublet in this city. He also expresses his exasperation at the skyrocketing prices of such places.

@whitneyparker related to the content so much that she thought it was real and wrote, "You deserve an Oscar!! I thought this was all real and you were really going through it until I got to the comments." @rnmartha53 definitely agreed with the expensive part and shared her own experience and wrote, "My son left CA to go to law school in NYC. He had a tiny studio apartment that cost the same as my house payment! But he thrived! And I love visiting!"
