The comparison of men's and women's thoughts when they are preparing to welcome a baby by author and actor George Lewis is on-point.

The entire body of the pregnant person goes through physical, mental, emotional and spiritual changes and these are unique to each individual. The role of woman carrying the baby is naturally more convoluted and intense than that of her partner. While partners play an equally important role in providing support, comfort, affection and care, the person carrying the baby is always more involved than the other. Addressing the stark difference in the thought process of a pregnant woman and her man, comedian, actor and author of the parenting book “Don’t Panic” - George Lewis - shared a sadly accurate reel on his Instagram account @georgelewiscom.

He accurately describes what is constantly on a pregnant woman’s mind when planning the welcome of a baby versus that of a man. He talks about the key decisions that fall on a woman’s shoulders when she’s scheduling the different tasks at hand to be able to give birth and bring a baby home. Then he also throws a humorous light on what goes on inside a man’s head while his partner is going through pregnancy.

The reel opens with Lewis enacting a woman’s thought process titled "women during pregnancy": “I’ve got so much to prepare. Gotta get the house ready, get the nursery ready, buy a cot, buy a pram, bottles, milk, baby grows, muslins, bedding. Need to think about work, how they’re going to take it, how it’ll affect my career, I need to go on a first aid course, start thinking about childcare, think about the changes to my body. I need new clothes, I need a new diet, I need to take supplements and I need to make sure I’m emotionally ready for the biggest change I’m ever going to have.”

He then steps into the shoes of "men during the pregnancy" and says, “I think I’ll enter a triathlon.” To this, he enacts the woman’s reaction as a poker face: “What?” giving the viewers an opportunity to share all their relatable experiences.

Comments poured in like coins out of a slot machine and Instagram users said their bit. Instagram user @msanniebullington shared, “Women: training to be all-consumed by parenting. Men: training to focus on themselves and be home as little as possible.” Another user @maureen_gomez_interiors shared, “Omg this happened to me! My husband did a marathon just as I was about to give birth! What is this all about?” In support of fathers, Instagram user @positivitypoppa said, “Crazy that incompetence of dads has gone so far that the mothers have resorted to joking about it. Come on guys, let's do better!”

The reel definitely made a point that many could relate to and left others to ponder over their parental duties. A pregnancy is a life-altering experience that needs equal participation from both parents. It brings out the fearful sides of both partners as they gear themselves up for a lifetime of responsibility for a tiny little human.
