Being a hard-core millennial, she went on a full-scale humorous Gen Z rant in a recent show and the responses are amazing.
The world and technology have seen some of the biggest changes over the past decades and it has seen a marked difference in the way Generation Z and millennials approach life. Iliza Shlesinger (@ilizas), a comedian, actress and TV host, has addressed this issue in her own hysterical way in one of her shows and the video is going viral on TikTok. Being a millennial, she delivers a much-needed message to Gen Z and people feel she hit the nail on the head. She captioned this video, "Millennials walked on Instagram so Gen Z could run on TikTok," which has gained nearly 9M views and 1.2M likes. "Who here is Generation Z?" began Shlesinger and added, "Not so bold outside of a TikTok comment section, are we?"
The comedian then shared her message for Gen Z on behalf of the millennials, "You are not nice, not nice to millennials and we have f*****g had it and because yours is a contextless generation made of sound bites and hot takes, you need to know a little bit about the history of my generation." Delving comically into the existential issues of millennials, Shlesinger said, "We were told we were lazy and that we could have everything and then we got out of school if we could afford it and there were no jobs and there were no houses and they said we couldn't have avocados." She then talked about the weird stuff her generation did like, "wearing owl jewelry and wide brim hats and moving to Brooklyn and making a small batch of lavender ice cream, but we ate it because it was the food of our people."
Shlesinger mentioned that once the pandemic hit, Gen Z replaced millennials as the new youth who said mean things like "Ew millennials, why you so cheugy." She then said, "I get that you're angry, Gen Z, at this tire fire of an urban rummage sale that you've been given called the 'society' and we are angry too," and added, "We have heartburn and our backs hurt but we are right there with you and you take it out on millennials because we're the only other ones on TikTok comment section with you." Calling out Gen Z for violence by proximity, the comedian then assured that the millennials didn't start the "fire" and they weren't the parents responsible for that.
"We are your older brothers and sisters. We are your allies. We are your bosses who will give you the day off cause your fifis are retrograde. We get it. We used to lie at work too," said Shlesinger and added, "We are your neighbors who will let you have your busted house party, just keep the music down because of the kiddos, we get it."
She wanted to convey the groundwork of fun that Gen Z has now laid by the millennials in the 90s and mentioned, "Never forget we forged social media. Never forget that we walked on Instagram so you could run on TikTok. We gave you that." She conveyed that she wants to go back to old times when Instagram was just for posting and not monetizing when she could just post #TBT holding an iced coffee.
The comedian said, "Be kind to us because we're exhausted, okay? And quit saying things like 'Ew millennials' or 'why do part your hair on the side'" and asked the younger generation to let her generation be what they want to be. One user, @californiachristie, wrote, "We were hated on by our elders and then Gen Z behind us. I haven't seen millennials sling that hate back. Low key, the kindest gen that just wants a nap." @shannonbolon commented, "We want Gen Z to fight while we stand on the sidelines and hand them snacks and drinks and love and support! We're on your side, just do your thing!"
