He only asked him, 'What is a cyclist?' and transformed the definition into a wholesome conversation with a hilarious touch.
Encounters with strangers tend to make up for the most impactful moments in our lives. Sometimes they’re good, other times, bad. However, when someone says something to you, sometimes it sticks with you. Similarly, a comedian, Troy Hawke—who goes on the platform as @troy_hawke—has been having these encounters for a long time and recently shared a heartwarming one. His video surely tells that he made the man’s day and both had an experience of a lifetime.
Hawke goes around the world with his hilarious yet talented comedy that also happens to be subtly heart-touching and insightful. He recently posted a video of his encounter with a shopkeeper that was all laughs due to the word “cyclist.” The video began featuring the shopkeeper at his counter while Hawke was near the entrance and said, “Look at this shopkeeper; he has the most trustworthy face I’ve ever seen.” That one statement, paired with Hawke’s confident genuineness, put a smile on the shopkeeper’s face.
Hawke then saw a couple of cyclists passing by the store and said, “Hello, cyclists, we’ve got snacks if you need them.” As he was completing his statement, the shopkeeper asked him, “What is a cyclist? I can speak English, but I don’t know every word.” Hawke then knew he had to let his magic take center stage. He went on to repeat, “What’s a cyclist? It’s somebody on a cycle, sir.” At this, the shopkeeper burst into laughter at the nature of the English language and his inability to guess the meaning. He said, “Haha, okay, oh yeah, bicycles,” as he connected the dots. The shopkeeper continued to happily giggle about the incident, which caused Hawke to pop a smile as well.
Unable to control his laughter, the shopkeeper said, “It does make sense.” He could not believe he missed out on understanding the meaning of such a self-explanatory word. While he was hooting with laughter, Hawke jumped at his subsequent chance to lighten up the mood when another group of cyclists came along. He repeated to them, “Hello, cyclists! We’ve got snacks for you. A cyclist is someone on a bicycle, which is you.” He again looked at the shopkeeper red with laughter and said, “Cyclist.” The shopkeeper is surely going to be giggling at the sight of that word, remembering in gratitude the funny man who helped him “decode the word.”
However, that was not all. Hawke stayed on longer when he began conversing with the shopkeeper. The man told Hawke, “18 years ago, I was divorced.” To this the comedian replied, “And it’s been wonderful since?” The shopkeeper responded, “I live alone and it’s the best time of my life.” To this, Hawke added, “Nobody tells you what to do. You’re the boss of your own.” The shopkeeper’s smiles only brightened and widened with the conversation. He said, “I’m my own cyclist.” They concluded the conversation with Hawke telling the shopkeeper something heart-touching. He said, “You’re beautiful. Never change.”
Comments flooded in for Hawke and the adorable shopkeeper. @mitsu_oshii said, “When positive vibes meet positive vibes, they multiply exponentially.” @leonaudacity said, “That man is laughing to this day.” It took Hawke only a minute or two to brighten up that shopkeeper’s entire day and create a memory that he’ll hold dear for long.
