John was sent off with only a BBQ and a certificate for 42 years of dedication. However, Soniah decided that he deserved to be honored for his loyalty.
In a world of criticism and discouragement, there are also some optimistic people who notice little things about others and get them the respect and dignity they deserve. Their kindness works magic in the lives of others, leaving an impression that lasts forever. A similar gesture was shared by Soniah - who goes on TikTok by @m3nta11y1ll1 - who decided to do something wonderful for her septuagenarian colleague John, who was nearing retirement. From a video of appreciation came a wave of kindness that only grew. The video mentioned, “Today is my coworker’s last day. He worked for this company for 42 years making minimum wage.”
She then mentioned that he received only a BBQ and a certificate from the company’s end despite his loyalty and commitment. “He takes the bus and is here every day on time. He loves working here and didn’t want to retire.” But that’s where things took off. Soniah and the others wanted to do something and reverse the careless farewell given to John. Along with Soniah, people on social media believed he deserved better, so they decided to help him. While several commenters suggested monetary aid and gifts, Soniah wanted to do something but wasn’t sure how.
In another video, she added, “He was a man who stayed to himself. When we asked if he received anything else, he replied with his classic shrug he barely talks. After investigation, I found out that he received a bonus, however, it was nothing compared to his 42 years of service.” What emerged from thereon was a GoFundMe campaign to collect funds for John’s retirement. The description read, “Can we give John something more for his retirement? Or maybe just some positive vibes and encouragement to get him through the rest of his days. It would be nice to give him some company or something to do for his retirement.”
John’s story reached millions of viewers who donated and raised over $36000 for him. People in the comments section had a lot to say. @dia_schmia said, “He looks so sad to be leaving. Just donated, happy retirement John!” @ashley_bassett said, “I hope he gets a huge donation, he deserves so much!” While the purpose is complete and the fund page is disabled, the words of encouragement, Soniah and other people’s thoughtfulness and John’s smile still have an impact. In one of Soniah’s follow-up videos, she shared a picture of John with his nephew, feeling grateful and overjoyed at the love poured out by many.
John is also seen with Soniah who shared the journey with him. She mentioned, “Last night when I checked it was $31k. This morning, it went up to $36k. You deserve it.” Soniah went on to share screenshots from the GoFundMe page with the many donations and words of encouragement in the video.
@itsoumiec appreciated Soniah's efforts and said, "Soniah, you’ve been able to do something that not many get a chance to achieve. Wishing only the best for you!!" @lesruiz2 said, "This is what I love to see on TikTok! He deserves this and much more."
