Being held by an armed assailant in an apartment or a car is a nightmare and keeping one's cool in such a situation is a challenge even when panicking can lead to fatal consequences. The North Myrtle Beach Police Department hailed a young female officer from South Carolina for rescuing another woman who was in potential danger, according to CNN. The police department congratulated Officer Kayla Wallace over a Facebook post back in 2023, revealing how she responded to a critical situation bravely and paid attention to the woman who sought her help. The woman, who cleverly mouthed "help me" to the officer, was also praised by the internet for her quick thinking.

The incident occurred early in the morning of May 28, 2023, when Wallace was patrolling the US Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach. "She observed a white jeep disregarding a red light at an intersection," the Facebook post detailed, adding how Wallace decided to stop the vehicle. "She observed a female driver and a male passenger when she approached the vehicle. As she spoke with the vehicle's occupants, she noticed the driver appeared distressed. While the male passenger wasn't looking at the driver, the female silently mouthed 'Help Me' repeatedly."

Wallace promptly removed the male suspect from the vehicle and shifted him to her patrol car. The terrified woman who asked for her help opened up about how the man had recently shot someone. "Due to Officer Wallace proactively patrolling the streets of North Myrtle Beach, even to the last 30 minutes of her shift, a suspect in a shooting was arrested and an unlawfully carried pistol was recovered underneath the suspect's seat," the post concluded. Dispatchers sent out a radio alert to all the officers in the region, informing them about a shootout in Horry County.

According to WMBF News, the man detained by Wallace was identified as Collins Bates, accused of shooting someone outside a sports bar in Myrtle Beach that day. Bates then forced the scared woman to drive him away from the crime scene. With the help of the woman who cleverly indicated her dire situation to Wallace, Bates was put behind bars. Besides the woman taking the perfect opportunity to ask for help from the officer, there have been effective safety tips on the internet that have been helping women to protect themselves.

In another instance, one woman found herself in a scary situation and thankfully, she recalled a safety tip she had seen on the internet, which possibly saved her life. A post on the r/TwoXChromosomes subreddit from the deleted account of a woman narrated a real-life experience and how she saved herself while traveling alone. The woman recalled an incident during the pandemic lockdown when she had gone to check on her grandmother in a nearby city.

She decided to stop in front of a desolate mall, wanting to use the restroom, when she found a suspicious man in a mask lurking close by. Fortunately, she recalled a post from the internet at that moment, where another woman had advised people not to go into a public bathroom, especially if they were getting followed. The Reddit user's instincts took over as she spotted a dollhouse store to her left and decided to enter it, hoping the man wouldn't follow her.

There was no one at the dollhouse store's counter, but the woman decided to stand in front of a section of miniatures to admire while staying alert about the suspicious man's activities. Finding the suspicious man matching her pace and following her, she called her husband, who was waiting for her outside in the car. Putting her phone on the speaker, she spoke loudly and said she was "being followed by a man behind her." Her husband did not waste another second and was out of his car, heading towards her location to assure her that he was coming for her, ultimately avoiding a scary outcome to the situation.
