Clever little dog seemingly solves math questions with ease when quizzed by her human

Though not as intelligent as humans, dogs can exhibit smart behavior to some extent. Our furry companions are taking over the internet with their adorable actions, quick-witted responses and even mimicking skills. The key, here, is training. Pet parents who actively interact with their canine babies and train them to do certain tasks greatly influence their intelligence levels. Luna (@lunatheminicockapoo) is one such clever pooch who can solve simple math sums. Her parent, Jared, recently posted a video where Luna appears to answer his math addition and subtraction questions.

Jared and his cockapoo, Luna, are very popular on TikTok for their amusing videos and have over 2 million followers. In the video titled "Math with my dog," Jared asked, "Luna, what is 9 minus 3?" and as Luna put on her 'thinking face' he assured, "You can do it." Then the adorable little pooch, tapped Jared's arm 6 times, indicating that her answer was "6." Jared then lauds her, saying, "Good." Then he asks his next question: "What's 6 minus 2?" Luna tapped on his arm 4 times. Every time he asks a question, Luna thinks for a while before answering and the way she ponders over the math sum is cute.

According to leading canine researcher, Stanley Coren, dogs can be close to humans in intelligence. Coren told the American Psychological Association, "'Dogs' mental abilities are close to a human child age 2 to 2.5 years. They can also count up to four or five and have a basic understanding of arithmetic and will notice errors in simple computations." Though we may not be sure if that's the case with Luna, she has some fundamental understanding of what Jared says. Finally, when Jared asked Luna, "What's 5 plus four?" she rightly tapped his arm nine times and got a "good job" from him. Though Luna's smartness was praised by many users, there were several comments questioning her intelligence's credibility.

People remarked that Jared trained her to stop tapping when he said, "Good." @bigfirebalc wrote, "The dog has no idea what he's asking. He just taps the guy with his paw until the guy tells him 'good.'" But @lukas.zgella contradicted, "Look at the last one didn't wait for 'good' when it stopped." @iamdenelliabronwyn commented, "Honestly, the fact that Luna was able to follow a command so well is brilliant in itself! Stop trying to find fault in everything."

Upon receiving thousands of comments saying that Luna's actions were fake, Jared posted a follow-up video, proving the haters wrong. In this video, he told his four-legged companion, "Luna, people think I give you a cue for the answer," to which Luna gave a quizzical expression like she was asking, "Really!" He then gave her a math sum, "What's 7 minus 3?" and as usual Luna put on her adorable "thinking face". She then tapped Jared's arm 4 times and, this time, Jared never said "Good" or gave any hint, confirming that her brilliance was not fake. 

People showered their love for Luna and @nic_0o1 wrote, "Luna is so adorable. She is human, actually smarter than human beings. I love her." @kaytedid3 commented, "Do you thank her for putting up with this?" No matter how Luna got the answers right, she is quite a smart cookie.
