Clever 81-year-old mom uses her own doorbell camera to send son an 'urgent' message

Doorbell cameras are great for catching notorious intruders and porch pirates, but sometimes they are just as good for having a good laugh. While most people use these devices to watch their homes from the inside, an 81-year-old grandma uses hers to get her son’s attention. A doorbell camera in Rialto, California, captured footage of this mother, Maria, delivering a message to her busy son inviting him for taco night at her house. The footage, timestamped July 2020, was part of the 'Neighborhood Stories' segment by Ring (@ring on YouTube).

Since the video was uploaded, it has left internet users both laughing and crying. Maria’s episode is proof that a mom never stops being a mom. "We are having taco night. If you like to eat, you just come over, and you are welcome to get it," Maria said, with her stark white hair, a pair of wide-glassed spectacles over her eyes, a blue dress, and a wrinkly face gazing straight into the doorbell camera. The curvy barrel-shaped image recorded by the camera revealed an entryway corridor, where the camera was likely installed. Daylight poured in from the sky and revealed a garage and garden in the background.

After extending her dinner invitation, Maria clarified to her son that she had attempted to tell him this over a call. But when he did not answer, she had to use the camera to get his attention. "I called you, and you didn’t answer," she said innocently. The caption from Ring, the video narrator, explained that Maria’s son and daughter bought her this video doorbell to ensure she is okay when they are not around, and she uses it to get their attention. "I like it because it's much safer; you know who's coming in or who knocks on the door," Maria told Ring.

With nearly 2 million views, the video went viral on social media.
