Diagnosed with a rare illness, her life seemed bleak—until one dating app match changed everything. A story of love and resilience.
Everyone deserves love, yet few openly admit their desire for an understanding partner. Those who refrain often prefer to remain the focal point of their own lives, which is perfectly fine as it’s a personal choice. But one woman, diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease, decided to swipe right on love, leading to a transformative change in her life. Anna DiBlosi, a 29-year-old chronic pain patient from California, shared her journey on TikTok (@anna_diblosi), revealing how a simple right swipe on a dating app brought her the greatest support of all: her boyfriend.
The video showcased DiBlosi expressing her gratitude for her loving partner's heartfelt care. Before meeting her now-boyfriend, R.J., a year ago, she had very little expectation from life. However, their relationship has brought her joy and support. As part of their outings, R.J. not only arranges her prescriptions and administers treatments but also takes her out to dine. Moreover, he consistently stays by her side during hospital visits, never hesitating to offer his unwavering support. “One year ago, he swiped right on someone who was suffering from a life-altering chronic illness. My life is by no means 'normal' because of the amount of support, patience and help I need with everyday tasks,” read the video’s text overlay.
The video captured DiBlosi highlighting R.J.'s compassionate gestures throughout the day, from accompanying her during infusions to taking her on drives. R.J. was seen performing all these tasks with a smile, providing 24/7 care for his girlfriend. “While I have the aid of medication, I'm still in severe pain 24/7, and my life is nowhere near what it once was. I've been a full-time patient, and I am no longer independent,” DiBlosi told Newsweek. She explained that she suffers from chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. This condition started as a food poisoning episode during her trip to Mexico in May 2022.
Although the love she receives from her boyfriend cannot cure her, his unwavering support has made her fight against the rare disease much stronger. The couple's story began when DiBlosi joined the online dating platform Hinge in 2023, despite her skepticism. “I was looking for a break from everything going on. I wanted to spend some time talking to a stranger who had no idea what I was going through with my health,” she said, according to the outlet. Despite seeking a break from her reality, she never anticipated crossing paths with her now-boyfriend.
Emphasizing that the universe had other plans, the LA resident added, “To say he takes care of me is an understatement.” R.J. also set significant couple goals for others by wholeheartedly accepting DiBlosi into his life, fully aware of her healthcare concerns. Their 35-second video showcasing their love and affection garnered widespread attention on social media, with over 152K views. Among the many reactions, @chutchh remarked, “I’ve had so many people leave my life due to my chronic illness. It’s so isolating. This gives me hope.” “The kindness that he exudes is actually insane,” @kelsey.foster lauded.
