When the reporter told him that her pronunciation wasn't too good, Hemsworth started 'mispronouncing' the weather report

Australian movie star Chris Hemsworth is notorious for playing characters that are on the far ends of the personality spectrum, from the "God of Thunder" to a laid-back guy. In a September 2020 live footage from the TODAY show (@TodayShowAU), Hemsworth can be seen crashing a live weather broadcast. While Laura Phillips, the reporter on the location, enjoyed the moment with the star, his unexpected guest appearance left hosts Richard Wilkins and Rebecca Maddern jaw-dropping in wonder. The epic episode has been viewed more than 23 million times.
Phillips was reporting from Scone, the Horse Capital of Australia. Standing in a meadow, she was talking about horses when Hemsworth entered the scene and pointed towards the back, where horses were munching grass in the background. Catching the reporter off guard, Hemsworth casually asked her what she was doing. She told him that she didn't have the most pronounceable reporting and asked whether he wanted to help her out. He took the script papers from her hands and, for the next few moments, “mispronounced” the weather report.

He reported the weather across Australian towns, from Darwin to Hobart and the Sunshine Coast. “Sunshine Coast, a shower or two, maybe get a raincoat ready there. Get your brollies [umbrellas] out as well, I reckon," he stated, noticing the weather forecast for Melbourne. “Adelaide, rain at times. Can’t tell you exactly what time, but there will be rain at some point," he concluded.

A study published in the Academy of Entrepreneurship Journal suggested that the presence of a celebrity at an event makes it more interesting for the audience and affects their overall perception of the event in a positive manner. The study found various factors that can influence the effect a celebrity presence has on the viewers, including celebrity likeability (54.3%), celebrity image (52.0%), personality (57.0%), credibility (64.3%), and attractiveness (67.3%).
This indicates that apart from being attention magnets, celebrities act like catalysts that prompt “collective effervescence,” a term coined by Émile Durkheim. According to a report by Merrimack College, in collective effervescence, the group experiences an intense emotion of being in “awe,” being in touch with the sacred, being “swept away,” or “becoming one with the crowd.” It happens when a group of people becomes united in emotion or synchronized in thought due to an unusual circumstance, precisely what happens when a celebrity joins an event, in this case, the weather forecast.
