A mom (u/lilouapproves) thought she wasn't doing enough for her child, when she received a beautiful note her 2nd grader had written in class. The mom, whom we will call Alex, shared the note on Reddit on November 4, 2025.

In her note, the child, whom we will call Chelsea, basically thanked everyone she felt made her world a little happier. They wrote, "I am thankful for my friends and family, because they fill my life with joy..." Chelsea also thanked her mother, adding, "...and my mom makes my life possible." Alex was obviously overwhelmed with the unexpected confession, and she called it the "most devastating emotional haymaker." In an exclusive interview with Scoop Upworthy, Alex recalled the moment, saying, "We all had a very long, warm family hug and thanked [Chelsea] for how kind and lovely her note was. She came back about another half hour later for another long hug, which makes me think she was having a lot of feelings over the message or our reaction to it, too."

More often than not, Alex said she worries that maybe she isn't doing enough for the child, but the note reassured her most beautifully. "I guess we're doing ok," she added. Alex confessed that reading the note was a bit extra emotional for her, considering the infertility issues she faced while struggling to conceive. Alex shared, "I was fortunate to be able to become pregnant at all, and only carried her to term because of intensive hormone therapy involving a long list of doctor visits, medications, and self-injections." She also expressed her regret for not being able to give Chelsea a biological sibling. "Adoption is a possibility, but we simply can't afford the process currently. So yeah, this was a hell of a good heartache to start my week with," she added.

Alex shared that Chelsea has always been an expressive child. "[She] has given us little notes and drawings since she first started experimenting with crayons, markers, and the like. But this note in particular was a very touching one just because of the specific things she said in it, and because it was clear she remembered conversations we've had with her about why we can't give her a sibling."

While replying to comments, the mom also confessed that she is proud of the little human she's raised. "I have a fantastic husband who helps immensely, and I have to admit I'm pretty proud of how it's gone so far," the mom replied when someone praised her for raising such a wonderful child. Meanwhile, reacting to the sweet little note, u/kennybrandz commented, "I swear they just know when you need that extra boost, even if they don’t realize they know. Hugs to you!" u/mr-furleyx1 confessed, "It is possibly the sweetest note I’ve ever seen."

In fact, a 2015 survey by the Family Council in Hong Kong found that 29% of parents experience emotional stress, worrying that they are perhaps not doing enough for their kids. Raising kids isn't easy, and it's an added pressure when you have to manage other responsibilities with children. The poll with mums from across the UK and Ireland revealed that most moms (84%) felt the 'mommy-guilt' hit them when they spend time away from the kids. However, sometimes only kids can help their moms or parents brush off the guilt, like Chelsea did for Alex.
