Boyfriend hid her from his coworkers for 2 years, leaving her wondering why — until a phone mix-up revealed he'd been calling her his daughter's nanny

At 40, a woman named Kel Marie (@itskelmarie) discovered that sometimes it’s better to be single than to get entangled with a man who doesn’t care about you. Through multiple instances, she found that her partner of two years was cheating on her, not with one woman, but with multiple women in his circle. In a 4-part TikTok video series that started in October 2026, she explained how she deconstructed the puzzle piece by piece. After spending four years as a single woman, she found out that this partner of two years was introducing her to his girlfriends as his daughter’s nanny. Her first video posted on October 3, 2026, has tallied more than 27,400 views.

Ignorance hurts in the end

The story began when she went on a night out with a friend and stumbled upon this security guard, a 6'1" Nigerian. Her friend called her attention to the man. She looked at him, and he smiled at her. She smiled back. They exchanged numbers, and he asked to buy her drinks and later, ice cream. At first she was reluctant, but seeing that he was treating her perfectly, she sensed good vibes and agreed. Eventually, they shared a kiss, and that’s where the talks started. While the connection felt so refreshing, Marie kept on ignoring the red flags.

Red flags popping up

First and foremost, each time Marie would visit her for dinner, he would talk for an hour at most and then fall asleep. Marie dismissed it, thinking he wasn’t a big talker, but the truth was that he was entertaining multiple women behind the scenes and had nothing left in his tank to share with her. They never went on a date and had no intimacy. “It was the driest relationship I've really been in,” she described. The second red flag popped up when she realized that he never wanted to be seen with her. For instance, when she would bring lunch to his workplace, he never allowed her to park where other employees’ vehicles were.

Playing the victim

Looking back, Marie realized there had been warning signs throughout the relationship. Her partner rarely planned dates or made much effort unless it involved work, and she often found herself helping with his invoicing, paperwork, and events. He also spoke about the trauma he had supposedly experienced with his daughter’s mother, which made Marie view him as someone who had been hurt before. Because he seemed to be working constantly, she never suspected there was time for anyone else. That began to change when she started helping him set up displays at events and met a woman, Kelly, from his day job. Marie and the woman quickly became friendly and started talking.

Truth comes out

Then the other day, Marie was stopping by her mom's and dad’s house when she accidentally picked up her boyfriend’s phone from the car. On the phone were messages from the Kelly — not casual conversations, but messages about him kissing her and sleeping together. When confronted, Kelly told her that he had told her that Marie was his daughter’s nanny. “I have never felt so disrespected in my life,” she recalled in a comment. A trail of clues then led her to find women upon women that this man had betrayed. And she was left regretting brushing the initial red flags away.

Infidelity in dating relationships

Data cited by the TryAmora app from 2022 research in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationship suggests that 35% to 40% of people cheat while in a dating relationship. In fact, cheating rates are higher in dating relationships than in marital relationships. Similarly, a study by Techopedia found that 23% of men and 19% of women who are not married have cheated. Additionally, nearly 67% of the men who have cheated on their partners are likely to cheat with multiple women.

'The audacity'

Viewers pointed out the audacity of that man to get angry at Marie and introduce him as his daughter’s nanny. @lorri695 commented, “They’re called narcissistic men. They seek empaths. I’ve been through the same scenarios. We were too good for them in the first place. The audacity of them!” @kellousie__ said, “What goes around comes around; he will get his karma!”
