Raleigh remained calm throughout the night while her fiancé had a severe meltdown

After a long-overdue date with her ex-fiancé, Lauryn Raleigh (@opallauryn) once went to bed early to join work the next morning. However, at around 1 a.m., her ex-partner shook her awake, saying she had to leave for Chicago immediately. Well, the man told Raleigh that a group of masked men with weapons had been threatening to harm them, and so they needed to vacate their house as soon as possible. Raleigh immediately recognized the scam, but her ex-partner had already fallen victim to it and had lost all of their wedding savings while trying to cover up his dirt. The video shared on May 7, 2026, has gone viral with over 639,000 views on TikTok.
@opallauryn I’ve come so far from the version of me that lived this story In November. I had no idea come May, I’d be packing up and moving out, but I feel so grateful that time has given me a freedom, I would never have given myself. This story time has been a long time coming, and I finally feel ready to tell it 🤍 #breakup #cheating #separation #infidelity #relationships ♬ original sound - Opallauryn
Raleigh shared that when her ex-fiancé woke her up in the middle of the night, convinced that dangerous people were out to get them, she knew it was not true. In fact, she was sure it was a scam. However, her then-partner, who had been cheating on her, fell for it easily, because he was scared to be exposed. He believed the scammers and gave away all their wedding money and savings to cover up his wrongdoings. While Raleigh's ex-fiancé was telling her about the money, he also revealed that he had been talking to other women online, and that was why the scammers targeted him. The incident cost Raleigh a fortune, and also the man she thought she loved and would end up marrying.
@opallauryn This is such a tough one to come to terms with. #separation #breakup #infidelity #coercivecontrol #healing ♬ original sound - Opallauryn
Despite the tough situation, Raleigh remained strong throughout. She said that looking back, she could have lost her mind, but did not because her fiancé's emotions were all over the place. Both of them spent the entire day talking to cops and the FBI, trying to get their money. All of it had happened right before Raleigh and her then-partner had put down their deposit for the wedding. She mentioned that her ex-fiancé primarily looked after their finances and realized what a big mistake that was. She lost more than he did with his actions. Months later, she said she is still processing what happened and confessed, "I am starting to get a lot more angry about a lot of things... I think once I get distance from this space, a lot of that anger is going to come up."
@opallauryn Before my partner’s infidelity came to light, there were years of conversations that had left me feeling unseen and drained, a mental load I was exhausted by, and a good man who just didn’t have the tools to love me how I needed to be loved. I wish I had someone tell me all of this sooner. And if it is you right now, please know, you can always walk away and choose yourself. It doesn’t need to make sense to anyone else, but you should never ever have to beg for someone to love you how you love. #breakup #separation #deconstruction #grief #healingjourney ♬ original sound - Opallauryn
While this scam uncovered a much deeper pattern of infidelity and changed Raleigh's life forever, such frauds are more common than we think. In fact, a 2025 Pew Research Center survey found that 73% of Americans have experienced some form of online scam at least once in their life. In fact, almost half (48%) of respondents reported their credit/debit card information had been stolen and used for fraudulent transactions. Similarly, 29% confessed that personal accounts have been hacked or accessed without permission. The survey found that younger people (aged 19 to 29) are more likely to be scammed than the older generation.

Meanwhile, netizens felt sorry for Raleigh, and several praised her strength and composure during such a chaotic situation. For instance, @cowboyalli commented, "You are genuinely God’s strongest soldier, like, what the f*ck." Similarly, @stewie.pati18 wrote, "Wow! What a serious doofus! He also would have probably known it was a scam if he weren't being a cheating idiot! On the bright side, you are free! The truth always comes out. That was the universe looking after you! Mother Nature knows you are one tough b*tch!"
