'Sorry, it was in the script...' the seasoned celebrity confessed, apologizing to the child.

Actress Catherine Anne O'Hara's untimely death has left all her fans heartbroken. She passed away at 71, at her Los Angeles residence on January 30, following a brief illness, the BBC reported. Since then, social media has been flooded with heartfelt tributes from her fans and her dear co-stars. Macaulay Culkin, the actor who played her son in the superhit 1990 film, "Home Alone," also penned a tribute to his onscreen mom after her demise. Thirty-six years on, the movie remains a Christmas favorite for audiences everywhere, but O’Hara’s realistic portrayal had once landed her in trouble. In fact, she had to publicly apologize to a child who once questioned her parenting in the movie. The "Schitt's Creek" star spoke about the incident in an interview with TODAY.
O'Hara was at a mall when an eight-year-old confronted her. "Are you Kevin's mom?" the child asked. The actress immediately said yes, unaware that she would have to apologize for taking up her iconic role. In "Home Alone," O'Hara's character, Kate McCallister, accidentally leaves her son Kevin alone at home, but once she realizes it, she does everything she can to get back to him. This is what the child didn't approve of; in fact, they accused the actor of abandoning Kevin in the movie twice. "Why did you leave him?" the eight-year-old asked, to which O'Hara replied, "Sorry, it was in the script." But the child was in no mood to understand; they asked again, "Isn't that called abandonment?" leaving the actress embarrassed.
Some may call out O'Hara's character in the movie for her careless behavior; she indeed became a mother figure to her co-star, Culkin, in real life. When asked if she was still in touch with the "Richie Rich" actor, O'Hara confessed she hadn't seen him for a long time until they bumped into each other a year ago. "I saw him around two and a half years ago, at a Martin art Hall, and he was coming out, and he said, 'Mommy,' and I said, 'Baby,'" she said, revealing how Culkin hadn't stopped calling him Mommy even after so many years.
Their bond had become so strong over the years that, despite not meeting that often, both O'Hara and Culkin would fall back into easy conversation the moment they met. Even in his post after the actress's demise, Culkin referred to her as his mom and wrote, "Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you, but I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later."

Meanwhile, people who haven't been able to cope with the actor's demise went all out praising her fabulous performance in the movie. For instance, @sweethearticulation commented, "She probably healed a wound in that kid just by apologizing for her character’s neglectful ways, what a sweetheart." Similarly, @bianisme_ wrote, "She really has that Mom's character that feels so warm every time we see her." @zafer.uzumovali wrote, "Life is made up of the beautiful memories people leave us with. Goodbye, Catherine O'Hara." Say hello to my father, who passed away a month ago. New Year's Eve means nothing to me anymore."
