Cat who refused to let go of a delivery man has found a new home with his family: 'Living her best life'

It is a well-known belief that our animal companions have a remarkable ability to rescue us, even in moments when it appears that we are the ones rescuing them. Moreover, it is often said that it is not we who choose these companions, but rather they choose us in a way that goes beyond our conscious understanding. A woman captured a remarkable moment on video, featuring her son who was diligently carrying out his nighttime deliveries. As he stood in a parking lot, a stray cat unexpectedly approached him and clung tightly to his leg, refusing to let go.

The woman—who goes by @dretontheborder—shared it as a TikTok video that has now garnered over 2.8 million views. She captioned the video, "I am not a cat person but maybe now I will be after today." In the text overlay of the clip, she wrote, "My youngest son was out making deliveries last night. A cat kept following him. Then jumped onto his leg and would not let go."

In the video, the man appears to be unsure about how to handle the cat, shaking his leg and then gently attempting to get her off. The cat, on the other hand, refuses to move. The man, eventually, lifts her into his arms. He, too, couldn't prepare himself to leave her side at the time. When his shift ended, the mother couldn't help but let her son take the cat home with them. The clip features him driving home, with the cat happily sitting on her new owner's lap.

The mom explained, "He called me and said, 'Mom please — I have to bring this cat home. It keeps following me. It is on me.' I was freaking out. I said, 'No, Manches! No!' Then he sent me a video of the cat literally clinging on to him." The cat even jumped on the man's shoulder while he was working and stayed there.

"He rescued her," the mother wrote in the video's text overlay, "I guess we are cat people after all." She stated that the white cat appeared to be "super skinny," and that they intended to take her to the veterinarian's office for an examination. The woman admitted after bringing the cat home that she and the rest of their family, including their dogs, are "getting to know each other."

The family named her "Venus" and, like the man who rescued her, they all fell in love with her right away. Their new pet was described by the mother as "super calm and sweet." In a follow-up video, she appeared to be "living her best life."
