People who buy old houses have been known to come across things such as hidden wells, notes left by previous owners, and even treasures in the backyard. Secret messages have always fascinated people as they may either contain secrets or take the reader back in time. In a similar incident, a carpenter who was tearing down a wall to renovate a house found a note from a girl written on September 25, 1975. The carpenter named Dakota Mohn found the two-page long note tucked behind a wooden wall with the words, "Note, 9/29/1975" written on it and an arrow pointing towards the place where it was hidden.

The note shared on Facebook read, "To whoever finds this: Today is Sept. 29, 1975. My name is Stephanie Herron. I live here with my mother, father (Earnest), Becky and Valerie." It further said, "Gerald Ford is president. Mrs. Lay is our neighbor. Mum is pregnant and the baby is due any day now." She pointed out that her house was built in 1872. "We are remodeling the house. The Illinois Central Railroad is on the west side of the house. We have lived here for 8 years," the girl revealed. The girl also shared that her dad works for the Chicago North Western Railroad. "Green Valley has about 650 people. I am 14, Val is 16 and Becky is 12. I hope you have lots of happiness in this house," the girl wished the family who lived in the house next.

As a postscript, the 14-year-old also added some information about her mother. "My mother's name is Rose Herron. She is a registered nurse. She works at Hopedale Nursing Home. She was born in Nebraska. She is a very good mother." "I was cleaning up debris and I looked up and saw the lettering on the wall said 'Note.' I stuck my cell phone in there and took a picture and saw it in this bottle. Took it out and read the note. It was like this 14-year-old girl was standing there talking to us, took us back almost half a century right there," Mohn told The Mirror. The new homeowner and the carpenter eventually found Stephanie, the girl behind the note who is now in her 60s.

The woman has changed her surname to Poit and now lives in New York as per the outlet. She has five children now and was quite shocked to find out about the note. The woman had little to no memory of the note she had written and left for new homeowners about 50 years ago. "Honestly, I forgot all about it. Life goes on, years go by," Poit expressed. "I can't believe how much this has struck people. I've gotten notes from people who remember me as a kid growing up in Green Valley. It was a good place to grow up."

"And I'm getting notes from people I don't know, teachers a lot of them, who are inspired to have their students do the same thing now," she continued. The owner is now thinking of installing a shadow box at the place where the note was found to display the message. "Both of us are going to leave a note in the wall for someone else to find in the future," Mohn said describing how he and the owner plan to carry the woman's legacy forward. In his Facebook post, Mohn noted, "I have found a lot of cool things in my career as a carpenter but this one tops it off."
